British Airways and Lufthansa are the first airlines in the world to be certified with the COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating, a safety protocol of the international air transport rating agency Skytrax.

Both companies have achieved the air safety classification 4-star Covid-19, based on detailed surveys and analysis regarding the effectiveness and consistency of the measures they have put in place to ensure the highest standards.
The COVID-19 rating puts the measures implemented within the airport and onboard environment under the magnifying glass to reduce the potential risk of customer contagion. The ratings on British Airways are based on operations at the London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 and for Lufthansa at the Frankfurt Terminal 1.
The 4-star Covid-19 aviation security rating recognizes good airport processing standards that include some elements of contactless technology, customer handling, and social distancing protocols for check-in, boarding, and arrival.
According to findings, BA and Lufthansa lounges have good cleanliness that has been visually validated and supported by ATP testing through surface analysis. They also have measures in place inside that facilitate social distancing and safe delivery systems for food and beverages.
On-board cleanliness and cabin presentation were rated as good quality through the use of UV sanitization techniques and mass disinfectant treatments. Regarding food service, contact deliveries were reduced and food safety measures for meal presentation were improved.
A few days later, Aegan and Easyjet also joined the 4-star club, the latter being the first lowcost airline to earn the prestigious award.
Aegean Airlines' airport standards are based on operations at Athens International Airport and for Easyjet, on the other hand, at London Gatwick Airport.
Skytrax has been testing airline standards since 1989 and providing specialized knowledge and experience.
