Costa Firenze is the Costa Crociere Group's new ship. Designed and built in Marghera shipyards, it draws inspiration from the Florentine Renaissance. The event was held today in full digital mode. With a gross tonnage of 135,500 and a capacity of more than 5,200 guests, the Costa Firenze is part of an expansion plan that includes a total of seven new ships to be delivered for the Costa Group by 2023, for a total investment of more than 6 billion euros, three of which have yet to be delivered.

In Costa Crociere's fleet, 11 of the 14 ships currently in service were built by Fincantieri, a testament to the strong relationship between the two entities, as well as representing a significant contribution to the Italian economy, providing work for thousands of employees and outside companies, engaged mainly in interior fit-out.
"The delivery of the new Costa Firenze is a sign of hope for the entire cruise and tourism ecosystem, and is the most tangible testimony to our Group's willingness to restart. Fincantieri CEO Giuseppe Bono commented, "Costa Firenze is the third cruise ship we have delivered since September, and we are pleased that the name of this unit recalls one of the most famous cities of art in Italy and the world. The delivery is an important fact because it is a tangible sign that the company is returning to normal production activity. I would also like to emphasize that Fincantieri's financial and economic situation has not changed significantly from what was communicated in previous quarters. The company has shown excellent resilience by avoiding the cancellation of orders and strengthening its relationship with customers in the cruise industry. We are a growing company that has acquired an international reputation and credibility that will facilitate that growth, and we can rely on an orderbook that provides us with long-term visibility and the opportunity to increase efficiency productivity and margins."

"Costa Firenze is a perfect ambassador of Italian style, bringing to the seas of the world, from Europe to Asia, the typically Italian taste for beauty," said Mario Zanetti, Costa Cruises' Chief Commercial Officer and General Manager of Costa Group Asia. "The Costa Firenze concept is inspired by an iconic city that represents Italian art, taste and refinement in the world's collective imagination. We designed this ship to offer our guests a unique experience, especially for the family target audience, with dedicated entertainment and services."
The Costa Firenze project also paid special attention to sustainability aspects. In fact, Costa Firenze's excellent environmental performance has been recognized by RINA (an international certification body) with Green Star 3, a voluntary notation that encompasses all the main aspects related to a ship's environmental impact, for each of which it provides maximum protection and prevention requirements (waste, gray water, black water, oil from machinery, CO2, ozone, greenhouse gases, particulate matter, sulfur oxides, nitrogen, ballast water). The certification, in addition to rewarding fulfillment of a number of environmental sustainability standards, recognizes design solutions and operational procedures voluntarily implemented, both during construction and navigation, aimed at exceeding performance on environmental safeguards required by international regulations.
In 2021, the ship will sail in the Mediterranean, offering two different one-week itineraries in the Western Mediterranean. The first itinerary, available from February 28, 2021, includes the Italian destinations of Genoa, La Spezia, from which excursions also depart to visit Florence and Naples, as well as Valencia, Barcelona, and Marseille. The second itinerary, available from May to October 2021, touches Genoa, Civitavecchia, from which excursions depart to visit Rome, Naples, Ibiza, Barcelona, and Marseille. After October 2021, the ship will move to Asia to join her sister ship Costa Venezia, also built by Fincantieri, at its Monfalcone shipyard, and entering service in March 2019.
