How to get priority boarding
American airlines, but increasingly European airlines as well, are using "boarding groups" to divide aircraft access and reduce chaos at the gates. Depending on ticket type, flight class, and level in the various loyalty programs, a group is assigned to each passenger.
The first to have access will be, regardless of ticket class, ConciergeKey holders the highest level in the OneWorld frequent flyer program. As seen in the table above, there are 9 boarding groups in total with basic economy passengers being the last to be allowed on the plane.
In fact, however, from today it will be enough to be a member of the American Airlines loyalty program, AAdvantage, to rightfully enter Group 6 before the vast majority of tourist class passengers.
It is a small but concrete benefit and is the first time it has been included in the base level of an airline loyalty program.
