Will officially take off on Sunday, March 28 the new Italian airline Ego Airways. The two aircraft Embraer 190Â will operate not only on routes not occupied by other carriers, but also in competition such as on the Bergamo-Rome route that will operate from June 4.
In this article:
Also of interest are possible seasonal destinations such as Mykonos and Ibiza, at the moment the company does not mention these two international routes, but they pop up here and there on the company's booking system.
There will be a real business class
The choice of routes is potentially smart and appropriate for the type of aircraft. The two aircraft in a 2-2 configuration can accommodate up to 100 passengers; the interesting aspect is that for passengers in "Private" class there is on-board catering, i.e., a real meal (a service that has practically disappeared in the Italian market, not only from low-cost carriers but also from traditional ones such as Alitalia).
And as stated by the company itself, "Tasty menus (in compliance with the latest Covid-19 requirements) based on fresh Italian products, and then vegan, protein and super healthy meals for those who don't want to give up their lifestyle even when traveling."
At the airport, you will also have fast track, although since they are mainly secondary airports they should not be too crowded, and small other advantages.
Our ticket for the first flight
We at TFC could not miss such an event, so we have booked our first ticket for the debut day. We will be leaving from Parma for Bari, with virtually immediate return.
We will try both proposals: on the outward journey we will fly private class, and on the return we will test the Just Go base fare.
Private class starts at €98.86 (couldn't they have simplified with €99?). For plus, which offers the possibility of taking a 15kg suitcase and changing the ticket with a penalty, it takes an extra 20€; for total flexibility and 5kg more suitcase an additional 55€ is asked.
Private class occupies the first 3 rows, a space between seats of 101 cm is promised, again it is seen that some mechanisms still need to be perfected since the extra space is advertised in inches or inches and not in cm.
After choosing the seat, extras are proposed, which in the case of private is practically only the luggage. Interestingly, in the case of the Just Go fare, other extras are also proposed, which is not the case in the private. This too must be a small bug, since going into the reservation it is possible at a later time to purchase the extras provided in the basic fare.
As mentioned, I booked the return flight in the cheapest fare: Just Go
Seat selection is chargeable from 5€, otherwise it is assigned at check-in. Front rows enjoy more legroom 83 cm, while selecting emergency exits costs 25€.
Carrying a bicycle costs 50€, you can buy more flexibility on the ticket for 20€ or carry an animal from 40€.
Curiosity
At the moment there is no sign of a loyalty program or point collection, however, if the user registers he is given an Ego Airways code to enter when booking, we will see if it grows into something interesting.
The sore point
In a'Age when tickets have become flexible, penalties and surcharges for changes gone from virtually all companies, Ego Airways on the other hand specifies that some tickets are not changeable even with penalties, while others have penalties if you want to change the ticket.
Now all I have to do is wait for March 28 and wish good skies to the new airline.
