Yesterday, the American company JetBlue officially unveiled the cabin interiors of its new Airbus A220 fleet. The first plane had been delivered in recent months And now it is ready to go into service.
In this article:
Founded in February 1999 by David Neeleman, the same entrepreneur behind the relaunch of TAP and several times likened to Alitalia, today it is one of the most popular carriers in the U.S. It is not a low-cost carrier if we use European low-cost airlines as a comparison, but it has a similar business model while also offering on its flights a wonderful business class: the jetBlue Mint.
Today the airline flies between the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean and South America but is ready for the big leap to London, where it is expected to land for the first time in 2022. The key will be the new Airbuses, as the JFK-Heathrow connection will be operated with A321s
A The Flight Club we have talked many times about the A220 and we have flown on both the Airbaltic and Swiss versions of the, the difference, however, with the American carrier's cabin is abysmal.
JetBlue currently has 70 Airbus A220s on delivery. Here's how they will be configured:
- 140 seats with a seat width of 47 cm, the widest available for a single-aisle aircraft
- Six rows of extra space seats
- Improved cushion comfort and adjustable vegan leather headrests that are softer and more breathable.
- The contoured design of the backrest at knee level creates additional space for each client.
- Custom-designed backrest holder with mesh pockets, perfectly sized for water bottles and bulk items.
- Easy-to-reach seat power with AC, USB-A and USB-C ports.
And as for the IFE system, in-flight entertainment:
- 10.1-inch 1080P high-definition screen on each seat.
- 30 channels of DIRECTV® with DVR-like pause and rewind capabilities, full seasons of programs, hundreds of movies and premium content from HBO and SHOWTIME.
- Picture-in-Picture Function.
- Improved 3D flight map that offers several ways to track time to destination.
- Personal device pairing functionality for use as a remote control or game controller.
- Expanded Fly-Fi® connectivity, providing coverage to nearly the entire JetBlue network.
Inspiration for the new Alitalia
Many European companies have this model on order, the new Alitalia itself has said it wants to use this aircraft as a backbone for short- and medium-haul routes. The hope is that Alitalia decides it wants to capture market share by providing a better product than how these planes are normally configured in Europe. That is why "copying" JetBlue could be a way to not only fight the lowcosts but offer a better product than Lufthansa, British Airways, and Air France.
Covering routes from Italy that could also serve medium-haul destinations such as Tel Aviv and Moscow, serving the entire Mediterranean basin by offering a product that is absolutely different from that of competitors, could be an incentive that could fill long-haul flights where Alitalia, as written several times, plans to focus on Boeing's best seller the 787.
I personally can't wait to try this A220, have you ever flown in it, what do you think? Write it in the comments.
