Air Italy, the airline created by the merger of Meridiana and Qatar, has reached the final end of the line.
In this article:
Flight operations have been suspended for more than a year, non-owned aircraft have returned to the Middle East or to leasing companies. The material was sold at auction and the bankruptcy trustee has initiated proceedings for the collective dismissal of 1,383 employees employed on permanent contracts and distributed between Olbia and Malpensa.
With this communication, sent to workers and unions, on April 1, the last phase in fact opened: "The company finds itself in the need to proceed with a collective reduction of personnel concerning all permanent employees of the company, at the end of the period of extraordinary wage supplementation, due to the intervening definitive cessation of any and all activities carried out by the company, whose liquidation has already long since been decided."
No one in these 14 months has come forward to revive the former Meridiana, and so today we have reached the final chapter of this sad affair.
