After Covid Free flights, the first two also arrive "Coronavirus-free" high-speed trains. This was announced by Trenitalia, which will inaugurate the new vehicles from April 16. This is another small step forward in ensuring mobility throughout Italy, pending a plan for summer 2021.
In this article:
I Frecciarossa Covid free concern the Rome-Milan route and are part of the experimental phase that may later involve other convoys and other stations. There are, of course, very specific requirements for access to the train, right from the purchase of the ticket. Passengers will only be able to travel if negative to Covid-19. The trainsets will be available on the route between Roma Termini and Milano Centrale, and vice versa, at the following times:
- Frecciarossa 9618: from Roma Termini (8:50 a.m.) to Milano Centrale
- Frecciarossa 9653: from Milano Centrale (18:00) to Roma Termini
From #16April the first trains will be in service #COVIDfree. These are 2 #Frecciarossa no-stop #Rome-#Milan on which passengers will only be allowed to board if negative to the #COVID. With the possibility of free swabbing at the station https://t.co/FBqTFXnL52 pic.twitter.com/J6sGYXEHkO

The requirements for accessing Covid free trains
Trains 9618 and 9653 Rome - Milan (and vice versa) provide for certain rules to enable a Covid-free journey. All those who have purchased a ticket can make the test for free by going to the CRI garrison located near the station, according to the manner and timing communicated by Trenitalia at the time of purchase, where the customer makes a special request and unless there is still availability from the CRI (the availability and timing, advance with which to appear at the station, will be made known at the time of purchase by the sales system). Children included in the 0-6 age group are exempt, subject to the parents' explicit request to perform rapid antigen testing.
Three documents must be shown to gain access to the train:
- TICKET;
- Valid identification document;
- certification of an antigenic or molecular swab with a negative result performed at the CRI garrison or independently.
The garrison will be accessible to customers from 45 minutes and up to 10 minutes before departure. Customers without a reservation and/or certification attesting to a negative result to the swab referred to in the above points will not be allowed access to AV FR 9618 and 9653 trains. During the trip, it will be necessary to wear a face mask and comply with spacing rules.
The rules in case of positivity
Should a passenger who purchased one of the Covid-free train tickets test positive for Covid and thus be unable to travel, he or she will receive a refund from Trenitalia by showing the certification of the test. You can choose between a voucher valid for 12 months or monetary reimbursement of the amount spent.
