Holiday paradise par excellence, a destination for honeymoons and dream trips, the Polynesia is about to reopen to tourism. This was announced on April 7 by President Edouard Fritch, who described the news at the end of a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

In this article:

Thus, after the nearby Croatia e Greece, and the more exotic Thailand e Belize, Polynesia also has a date for reopening (barring any last-minute changes).

    How Polynesia will reopen

Currently, in Polynesia, the average is 20 new cases of Coronavirus per week. And the vaccination campaign is open to all adults. A situation the government intends to protect. "We are developing a protocol that will allow tourists to enter the country with negative swab, serological test attesting to the presence of antibodies or with vaccine", Fricht said.

To tourism, Polynesia closed (again) on Feb. 3, 2021. A restriction in effect for travelers from every country, which will end on April 30. Or rather: tourists, starting May 1, will be able to return to theisland of Tahiti (the largest in the archipelago, but only one of the 118 that make up the country). Until then, travel is allowed only for business, health or family reasons, as well as to return home. The protocol will be finalized any day now but, presumably, the rules will be that currently in effect For admitted travelers:

    • Negative swab taken no more than 3 days before departure or certificate of recovery
    • registration on the Etis.pf platform

In all likelihood, a certificate of vaccination may be presented as an alternative to the swab. And the mandatory quarantine, which is currently 10 days and costs every traveler over 11 years of age, will be abolished 50 € per day (including accommodation, three meals a day, health insurance, transportation from the airport to the facility).

    The Maldives Alternative

Currently, Polynesia is between the E-list countries. Therefore, it is not possible to go there for tourism. Probably in the coming months the list of safe nations will be expanded and, therefore, one will be able to arrange one's vacation in this region of Oceania as well (budget permitting). If not, or if it were allowed but one's finances did not allow it (the flight to Thaiti is very expensive, unless one has many miles), you can always opt for a more attainable earthly paradise.

We are talking about the Maldives which, alongside very expensive luxury accommodations, offer far more affordable guesthouses. And which can be reached from Italy with reasonably priced flights (you can even Stay in a villa for 1,000 € per month!).

The Maldives, for months now, has reopened to tourism. Italy currently allows people to go there only for business purposes, but in all likelihood things will soon change. And it will be possible to dream again. In Polynesia, the Maldives or wherever you want.
