New York reopens for summer 2021: news on ban to flights from Europe

New York City is ready to officially reopen its doors. A promise, that of the mayor Bill de Blasio, affecting tourists as well as citizens of one of the world's most important cities. In April 2020 NY became the US epicenter of the epidemic, touching 1,000 deaths in one day.
In this article:
Many months have passed since then, and it is finally time to start again, regaining a long-sought normalcy. When will it be possible to actually live in the city again? The month indicated by the mayor is July. Here are de Blasio's words on the subject, "We are ready," he told MSNBC, "Ready for the reopening of businesses, enterprises, offices and theaters. All at full capacity."
The importance of vaccines
New York will reopen, and it will do so thanks to the vaccination campaign conducted to date. A process not without criticism, as in the rest of the world, but one that has led to considerable heights. An extraordinary number of citizens have received their dose.
This is the strength of Bill de Blasio's plan to reopen: "The population is getting vaccinated in extraordinary numbers. To date they are 6.3 million New Yorkers vaccinated". The process is still a long one, and the mayor hopes to do better by July so as to ensure a normal summer 2021 so that economic activities battered by the pandemic can resume. There is still a clear disparity between those who received only the first dose and those who received both. The second category includes "just" 2.5 million citizens.
There is no denying, however, how the process is working, dragged along by people's desire to take back their lives: "The Natural History Museum is administering free vaccines under the blue whale. Hospitalizations are dropping and the situation is improving day by day. We are ready for the path to a full reopening."
Is it possible to fly to New York?
Starting July 1, New York City will regain some normalcy. Here are the businesses the mayor plans to reopen in two months:
- restaurants
- stores
- businesses
- small businesses
- hairdressers
- barbers
- gyms
- stages
- arenas
- theaters
- music halls
- museums
Natural to wonder, then, whether it will be possible to obtain a tourist visa to spend the summer in the city. It is certainly not a decision de Blasio is in a position to make. It all depends on the U.S. federal government, which currently does not give a green light to arrivals from Europe and foreign countries in general.
Excellent news, in this regard, could come by mid-May. According to CNBC, in fact, President Joe Biden is reportedly ready to Remove the ban imposed on flights from Europe, United Kingdom, and Brazil, as well as loosening restrictions imposed with Mexico and Canada.
There is nothing official yet, but the network points out that these rumors come from two sources inside the administration. May will be a crucial month, then, with the U.S. government believing an acceptable minimum threshold of vaccinations can be reached in the coming weeks. Hard to imagine a total and indiscriminate reopening. Albeit with the necessary controls, however, it will probably be permissible to return to planning travel to America soon.
