When I was a child and lay down on the grass, I used to enjoy salute planes passing by, fantasizing about where they were going and how it was possible that they could manage to Fly.
In this article:
Now I understand how they can fly, I don't greet them anymore, but when I see one in the sky, I haven't stopped fantasize about where he is going...
The planes are fascinating, it is beautiful to see them in the sky, it is beautiful to see them take off and land. At Geneva airport they know this and in fact a new terrace for flight-watching: the runways are clearly visible and it is possible to watch all the air traffic entering and leaving the airport.
To access it, simply go to the Terminal 1 arrivals, overcome a check of security and then take the elevator to the fourth floor. The railings are "photograph friendly" meaning they are positioned in such a way that they do not obscure the view and provide ample space photographable.
Also present are some binoculars panoramic so as not to miss a single detail:
Also inaugurated on the terrace was the Panorama Snack Bar, a modern bar in which to relax and enjoy the view, enjoying a snack or sipping a hot or cold beverage, either standing or in the seating distributed throughout the bar and terrace.
Also present is a section entertainment: a room was set up projections where you can discover the history of Geneva Airport through a collection of footage informative and historical information from the airport archive.
"Isn't it every child's dream to be able to watch airplanes up close? I am glad that the people of Geneva can once again enjoy a terrace after a 20-year absence."
André Schneider, CEO of Geneva Airport.
Opening Hours.
The terrace was supposed to open in September 2020, but the pandemic has delayed the whole of almost 1 year. Now the terrace is fully operational and open in bands hourly depending on the seasons:
- High season: May 1 - October 31, Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Low season: November 1 - March 14, not open to the public
- Mid-season: March 15-April 30, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
To get an idea of what the viewing terrace at Geneva Airport looks like, here is the video officer:
The first aircraft sighting "terrace" at the Swiss airport dates back to the 1925, But the enlargement and various changes to the airport had made disappear the sighting spot, all until 2017 when new CEO Schneider decided to bring the terrace back.
After a dark period, which saw a decrease in air traffic of more than the 60% for the Geneva airport, there was a need for a turning point, thinking especially about the future when everything returns to normal.
Now that vaccinations are proceeding and the Green Pass is operational, we can pop over to Switzerland and enjoy the show.
