Who said you can only sleep comfortably on a plane by shelling out considerable sums of money? Lufthansa has wonderful news for travelers. It has introduced the Sleeper's Row, which will allow people to rest in total comfort even in economy class. A smart response to the many seats left vacant due to Covid-19.
Lufthansa, what is Sleeper's Row
In this article:
Important news on Lufthansa flights in relation to certain long-haul routes. From August 2, 2021 one will have the opportunity to reserve a Sleeper's Row, either during check-in or at the airport gate. It goes without saying that this chance is guaranteed only before the flight. No upgrades to one's fare will be allowed on board.
What, however, does Sleeper's Row consist of? Applicant passengers will be provided with an entire row of seats. This consists of. three or four adjacent places. An advantage that will last for the entire flight. It will thus be possible to stretch out, albeit in a more constricted manner than in other classes. The cabin crew will also offer the following accessories:
- comfortable pillow
- blanket
- Business Class quality mattress cover
The system does not simply involve removing some armrests from the middle part of the row. Indeed, it is necessary to provide security for passengers who wish to opt for such a solution. Therefore, a special seat belt, which can protect travelers ready to rest during long trips. The device remains attached even if the passenger is lying down. Stewards and stewardesses will provide the necessary instructions, which can also be found in a special brochure provided on board. Those who choose a Sleeper's Row will also have access to pre-boarding, so they can avoid tedious lines at the gate.
On which flights is it available
As indicated above, Lufthansa has not introduced this option for all its flights. To take advantage of it, one must purchase a ticket for a long-haul route of at least eleven hours or more. The green light has been given as of August 2, and routes to theFar East, the west coast of the United States, l'Central America and southern and theSouthern Africa.

It is not exactly the same as sleeping in first class
It should be pointed out how there is a supplement, the cost of which is included between 159 and 229 euros per route. As mentioned, you can select this option at check-in or at the gate. Under no circumstances will it be possible to make a reservation in advance, considering also the limited number of Sleeper's Row. In fact, at present, Lufthansa offers only three per individual flight.
The carrier tested this innovation on the Frankfurt-Sao Paulo-Frankfurt route. The trial lasted several weeks in late 2020. Feedback has been very positive from passengers, who have made numerous requests. This is a very important change that will provide more variety in Economy Class, which is set to change its appearance.
This is not the first time such a radical change has been hypothesized. Just think of the Economy Skycouch of Air New Zealand. The idea was to offer the public six reclining beds, each with a minimum width of 58 cm. Privacy provided by curtains and more comfort in the cheaper classes. An idea first advanced in 2018. To date, it still seems to be in the development phase and it is not possible to know when and if it will actually be implemented on scheduled flights.
