ITA Airways gives status to (virtually) everyone

ITA Airways' Volare program. is not yet operational that the fledgling Italian flag carrier has already implemented the first strategy to quickly accumulate members, viz. a status match offer.

What is status match

It is a Practice that loyalty programs put in place to "steal" customers to competitors, In the past 18 months we have seen so many proposals from airlines, such as that of Virgin Atlantic aimed at "enticing" British Airways' loyal customers. Hotel chains such as Marriott and the Bonvoy program. Up to the companies of cruise as MSC.

How the status match works ITA Airways

Almost all such offers present a challenge to be accomplished, in this case ITA does not require anything from participants, by doing so it is in fact certain that status will be granted to all applicants who qualify.

How to apply for MS:

• You must first be enrolled in the program Flying

c.   Attach a legible copy of your valid frequent flyer program card (digital or physical) and a copy of your ID card

The request for matching membership status will be reviewed and an email will be sent if the status has been recognized by 12/31/2021.

• Delta Airlines - SkyMiles
• Emirates - Skywards
• Iberia - Iberia Plus
• Korean Air - SKYPASS Club
• Lufthansa - Miles & More
• Middle East Airlines - Cedar Miles
• Qatar Airways - Privilege Club
• Royal Jordanian - Royal Club
• Saudia - Alfursan
• Singapore Airlines - KrisFlyer
• Swiss Air - Miles & More
• TAP - Miles & Go
• Tarom - Sky Team
• Turkish Airlines - Miles & Smile
• United Airlines - Mileage plus

The new status will be recognized in ITA systems as soon as the matching process is completed, and members will receive an e-mail service notice confirming this recognition by Dec. 31.

The new status will be valid for one year from the date of activation.

In conclusion

ITA's strategy is clear. Not only does he want to Take back all Alitalia frequent flyers immediately, but by making a similar status match proposal, open to all major premium airlines flying into Italy and for which no challenge is required, the marketing department wants to create as rich a database as possible.

Since it is affiliated with SkyTeam, it is obvious that a traveler with elite status in either of the other two alliances could effortlessly end up with the equivalent of their status on SkyTeam as well without even having to fly ITA. This is not a bad possibility.
