The long-awaited announcement is finally here, as the city-state government of Singapore continues its gradual reopening of borders. After activating the protocol of the Vaccinated Travel Lane last Oct. 1 to travelers from Germany and a few other states, Now it is Italy's turn as well.
In this article:
As of Oct. 19, vaccinated travelers from Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Great Britain, and the U.S. will be able to enter Singapore without the need to undergo quarantine and without any restriction under the VTL scheme upon registration starting next October 12.
How VTL works
The protocol is very reminiscent of the Phuket Sandbox devised by Thailand to reopen its doors to tourists, with the addition that not all flights and not all airlines can carry LTV passengers.
The requirements are:
- Having completed the vaccination cycle for at least 14 days with a WHO-recognized vaccine
- Flying on one of the certified flights, even with an intermediate stopover but still in one of the nations covered by the VTL scheme
From Italy, the only possible flight is Singapore Airlines, both the direct from Milan and the From Rome with a technical stopover in Copenhagen. It will also be allowed to fly to Singapore with Lufthansa via Frankfurt or British Airways via London, but it will not be possible to fly with Emirates, Qatar or other airlines that are not in the table above.
- Have negative result of a PCR test in English executed Not more than 48 hours before departure for Singapore
- Fill out the SG arrival Card Within 3 days of arrival in Singapore
- Be in possession of a travel insurance With a minimum coverage of 30 thousand SGD
- Upon arrival at the airport, it will be necessary to undergo a new molecular swab that will must be booked and paid for in advance of departure
- Install the app for the contact tracing TraceTogheter
- You will be required to stay in the room until you receive negative results of the test performed upon arrival at the airport.
As you can see, the procedure is laborious, but there are fewer documents to fill out than Thailand requires with the COE, and most importantly, there is no requirement for tourists to have to retest in the days following arrival. All details are well explained in the dedicated website.
Is it possible to go to Singapore for tourism?
The answer is yes, at present Singapore is on the list of nations where it is also possible to travel for tourism without any restrictions.
It is also necessary to: a) submit the certification of vaccination (with EMA-validated vaccine), or the so-called Green Pass certifying vaccination, and b) Perform a molecular or antigenic test conducted by swab and found to be negative, within 72 hours preceding entry into Italy.
In the absence of certifications (a) and (b)Â (which are cumulative, not alternative), you can still enter Italy but with a requirement to:Â
- undergo fiduciary isolation for five days, activating health surveillance through the relevant ASL.
- At the end of the five days of isolation, it is necessary to carry out a further test.
