It's not just ITA, with its Volare program, hunting for Alitalia's former loyal customers, now attempting to "steal" tricolor frequent flyers is also on TAP Portugal.
In this article:
The Portuguese airline, a member of the Star Alliance, has launched its Status Match proposal dedicated exclusively to elite status holders of the Millemiglia loyalty program. The interesting aspect of this opportunity is that TAP status is valid in all companies of thealliance, of which Lufthansa is a member., Swiss, Singapore Airlines and United. It thus allows Access the lounges of these carriers and see all privileges recognized even if you don't fly TAP.
TAP's offer
The status match offered by TAP Portugal offers the possibility of having the draw of the level held in the Millemiglia club until 23/11. The matches between MilleMiglia and TAP Miles&Go statuses will be as follows:
- Winged Arrow Plus ✈ TAP Miles&Go Gold
- Winged Arrow ✈ TAP Miles&Go Gold
- Ulysses ✈ TAP Miles&Go Silver
Unlike what ITA Airways did, Which gives status to all applicants without any challenge, in this case TAP places stakes that require the applicant not to fly, but to spend money by proceeding to purchase a minimum number of miles and subscribing to Club Tap&Go.
How much does it cost to obtain status
Two different challenges are provided depending on the level possessed.
Those who apply for the TAP Miles&Go Gold level will have to buy a minimum number of miles from the TAP program; right now there is a promotion running that gives a bonus from 150% to 300% of the miles purchased.
The following is required to obtain the status the purchase of at least 16k miles for an indicative expenditure of 420€.
You will also have to go through a subscription to the Club Tap&Go loyalty program, which charges an annual fee and, in return, allows the member to earn miles and get services such as priority boarding, qualifying miles, and other small benefits. Nothing like to what Emirates offers with its Skywards+.
The minimum subscription to obtain the Gold level is the Club Top which, for a €399 annual fee, allows the challenge to be triggered.
In conclusion
I would only recommend this challenge to those aiming for the Gold level and only if you plan to fly frequently with the Star Alliance. The cost of the challenge is just over 800 euros, so the reasoning behind it must be cost/benefit. Given the offer might be a good avenue to look for an award ticket, immediately knowing how to use the points and obtaining as a benefit that of Gold status. Conversely, I would do nothing for the Silver level, since it does not allow access to lounges and other elite benefits, it makes no sense to invest money in this type of challenge.
Personally being already Gold StarAlliance thanks to Singapore status I'm not interested, but I have to say that if I wasn't already elite in this alliance, I would definitely give some thought to this status match offer.
