The year 2022 has just begun, but companies are already looking ahead to 2023. Singapore Airlines has announced the extension of all statuses of 12-month Krisflyer program members, replicating the same operation done last year.
In this article:
Singapore's decision
The city-state company is the first to break ground on automatic renewals in 2022, the last carriers to make a decision similar to December 2021 had been British Airways and Qatar. What is certain is that the Krisflyer program will not be the only one in this direction.
- Gold and Silver Elite cardholders with scheduled expiration between March 2022 and February 2023 will see automatic 12-month renewal
- Qualifying miles earned in the year just ended will be carried into the new account: thus, thanks to the rollover, they will not start from scratch for status renewal and will be counted in the requalification between March 2023 and February 2024
Singapore's choice is much more protective than what has been done by programs similar, such as British Airways Executive Club, which renewed statuses but reset to zero the number of qualifying miles/Tier points accumulated in the previous year.
The carrier's choice is understandable; Singapore's borders remained closed until the fall when it was introduced the Vaccinated Travel Lane protocol. Thanks to this solution, the borders have gradually reopened to Italian tourists as well, Until the outbreak of the omicron variant That again stopped nonessential travel.
Virtually impossible then for loyalty program members to renew statuses. The fact then of decreeing all accumulated qualifying miles as rollovers will allow simplified renewal even beyond the date of 2023 when hopefully the situation in the world will be quite different.
I personally am a Gold member in the Krisflyer program., a status I obtained thanks to a fast track related to Operation Infinite Journeys, a partnership between the carrier and the Shangri-lĂ hotel chain. In my 2022 plans was the will to renew it, so today I'm doubly happy: thanks to the automatic renewal and the flights I already have scheduled, I shouldn't struggle to get the Gold status with Singapore and thus with all Star Alliance airlines Until next September 2024.
