The spectacular ship, built by Fincantieri in Marghera, Venice, promises to be a turning point for Norwegian Cruise Line. It will offer guests exciting itineraries, larger spaces, elevated service, thoughtful design, and a surprising variety of new experiences, in addition to Norwegian's exceptional service. World-class architects contributing to the design of the new ship include Italian designer Piero Lissoni.
Katy Perry will welcome Norwegian Prima, the first of six First Class ships, at a majestic event in Reykjavík, Iceland, on August 27, 2022. In keeping with a centuries-old tradition, the launch will take place through the ceremonial breaking of a bottle of champagne on the bow to wish the ship and her travelers good luck. With this event, Norwegian Prima establishes a new record: she will be the first cruise ship christened in the Icelandic capital.
"We are thrilled to welcome Katy Perry, a one-of-a-kind and globally successful artist, as Godmother of Norwegian Prima," said Harry Sommer, President and Chief Executive Officer of NCL. "We are so incredibly proud to have her as a member of the Norwegian Cruise Line family and look forward to launching our beautiful and innovative ship with her in August."
"My favorite way to spend vacation time with my family is by the sea. Every morning you wake up and you can discover an incredible new view," Katy Perry said. "I love that I'm given the opportunity to christen her with my positive vibes, and I'm so excited about this beautiful new high-end, high-tech ship that will soon take to the sea to provide unforgettable vacations for so many families."
Norwegian Prima is the most in-demand ship the company has ever launched, offering first-class service, thoughtful design, unforgettable itineraries, and a premium guest experience.
On board, guests will be able to retreat to Ocean Boulevard, featuring multiple infinity pools and glass Oceanwalk decks with breathtaking ocean and destination views; visit Indulge, the brand's first open-air dining venue with upscale international cuisine; or relax on The Concourse, with an en plein air sculpture garden boasting "Instagrammable" installations by renowned artists David Harber and Alexander Krivosheiw. Designed by Piero Lissoni's master architects, the ship's revamped luxury suite complex, The Haven By Norwegian, will feature 107 staterooms spanning eight decks with a new infinity pool overlooking the ship's wake and a new outdoor spa with a glass-walled sauna and cold room. Most recently, NCL unveiled the culinary and beverage offerings available on Norwegian Prima and Viva, including the brand's first sustainability-focused lounge, The Metropolitan, and its ultra-exclusive restaurant Palomar, featuring Mediterranean seafood specialties.
Departing in August 2022, Norwegian Prima will offer inaugural voyages to Northern Europe from Southampton, England; Amsterdam and Reykjavík, Iceland, starting Aug. 12; Bermuda from New York City starting Oct. 6; and Caribbean itineraries from Galveston, Texas and Miami starting Oct. 27.
