The Moxy sign Is, in the Marriott portfolio, dedicated to the more frugal traveler looking for a design environment where the superfluous has been eliminated. The soul of these hotels lies in the common spaces, generally built around the central cage that encloses the bar counter, which, when necessary, also becomes the reception desk where you can check in.
In this article:
Unfortunately, these hotels are rarely in the city center, to date the only Moxy I found downtown was the one in Lisbon, but here I think it played into the fact that it was not that far from the airport and was in front of the central station of the Lusitanian capital.
As the name suggests, the Moxy London Heathrow is located in close proximity to London's busiest airport. These hotels were created primarily to meet a need: that of sleeping near the airport when you have an early morning flight or land late in the evening and do not want to go downtown.
In my case, I chose it for both reasons: I arrived late and had to leave the next morning, I could also have gone downtown and taken a walk, but for only two days I was forced to have to carry out One more test on arrival. No longer necessary now.
Reservation
Of all the available signs, I chose the Moxy because it was the cheapest and because there is an ongoing Bonvoy program promotion that allows you to accumulate 1,000 bonus points and double nights per stay, a way to try to move up in the American chain's loyalty program.
The cost of the stay was 66 euros per night, in line with other hotels of the same category in the area.
hotelHoppa
To get to hotels in the area around the airport, one can travel by cab or uber, take a classic British bus, or use the hotelHoppa service. It is actually a bus service that runs a fixed route, at set times, from the airport to about 20 hotels in the area. At peak hours, there is a bus every 20 minutes; in the evening it drops to one run per hour, given the traffic these months it is only fair that it be reduced.
The cost is 5.5 pounds per person, buying the ticket on the bus costs 6 pounds. Through the app or site you can also buy family tickets, round trip and other combinations that save a few euros. On balance it pays off if you are traveling alone or in twos, beyond that it probably pays uber.
The Moxy is practically at the end of the ride from the airport, at that time there was no traffic, the ride took about 20 minutes.
Check-in and room
As mentioned, the beautiful part of the hotel is the common areas, and here I must say they have outdone themselves: it is definitely the most beautiful and largest Moxy I have ever visited.
The lobby is huge; there will be over 200 possible seats. From the fireplace to the mega screen, from the inevitable relaxation area with table football, table tennis and billiards to the bar counter that is adequate for the potential influx.
And then there she is, parked in the center with a mega bear on board, a Mini complete with union jack on the roof.
Quick check-in procedures, as always, and welcome cocktail (alcoholic) on the house. What can I say at the Moxy makes you want to party.
You spend just enough time in the room to sleep and shower. All rooms are similar, "hanging" bed and micro but basic bathroom.
Design on the walls, LEDs to warm the room, but it's definitely not a suite. There are not so many types of rooms, precisely because if you have to spend time in the hotel you have to spend it in the lobby, which also becomes the breakfast room in the morning.
The only disappointment was the mattress, let's just say it had seen better days.
Also available to guests is a small gymnasium, suitable for taking a jog before boarding the next flight.
In conclusion
The Moxy never disappoints, and when you add the low price to a rich Marriott promotion...it's like bingo.
