The news had been anticipated in February, has now become operational. Qatar, one of the best companies in the world, abandoned QMiles points (the currency of its loyalty program) to adopt Avios (the currency of British Airways and Iberia's loyalty program).
In this article:
This is not just a simple label change, but a real revolution that makes it easier to redeem award tickets and accumulate more points.
Starting today, March 22, all Qmiles points are transferred at par into Avios points.
By logging onto your personal profile on the Qatar website, you can in just a few clicks link the accounts and have one unified balance.
Qatar is the largest shareholder in IAG, the company that owns Iberia, British and Vueling. So this step was a further step toward an integrated increasingly strong of the various carriers, all also part of theOneWorld alliance.
Obviously nothing changes in the loyalty program Of the Doha-based carrier, everything will remain the same in terms of both the accumulation of qualifying points and Avios. What is certain is that thanks to this union it will be easier to use the points and avoid losing them through non-use.
Is this a positive change?
For us Italians, this is a very big change, and for the better. The reason is simple: accumulating Avios points in Italy is definitely easier than accumulating Qmiles points, for example, it is possible to Turn Membership Rewards points into Avios points and then use them to book an award ticket.
