We all know how that turned out, and so the route was put on hold for the next year as well due to the continued closure of the Canadian borders. Now, simultaneously with the end of the restrictions imposed to enter the North American nation, it is time to take off.
WestJet is a Canadian airline based in Calgary. Its main hubs are Calgary International Airport and Toronto-Pearson International Airport. It has a long-haul fleet consisting solely of Boeing 787/9 Dreamliners.
Founded in the mid-1990s, it began as a national low-cost carrier, but in recent years has shed its skin and grown into a traditional carrier. It has its own loyalty program, but is not associated with any aviation alliance and thus operates flights in partnership with many airlines.
Fares are very attractive and competitive with Air Canada, Canada's national carrier, which flies not only direct to Rome but also to Milan and Venice.
The direct flight from Rome leaves at 1:55 p.m. and lands at 4:20 p.m. local time after more than 10 hours of flight time. From there it will be possible to continue connecting to other domestic destinations and beyond in the WestJet network. Initially the flight will be operated only on Sundays and then become three weekly connections from June to the end of October.
