We here at TFC had believed it, we had really hoped that EGO Airways could be an industrial project with a solid foundation and instead it lasted much, much less than expected and really ended in the worst way.
In this article:
We were happy to book and travel on one of the very first flights of the company, which was born in late 2020 and took off for the first time in March 2021. We flew from Parma to Bari and tried out the two travel classes. On board Martina, the only Embraer 190 in the fleet, who today returned to the lessor and, ironically, now flies ITA Airways on the Milan Linate-London City route.
Martina was to be only the first of a fleet, domestic routes should have expanded immediately also to foreign countries with destinations such as Ibiza and Mykonos, put up for sale and then immediately cancelled. In fact, EGO carried out charter flights for the Naples and a few scheduled flights over the Easter 2021 period. When the airline took off it did so on a reduced network compared to what was put on sale until August, when it in fact flew almost only in code share with Lumiwings.
Today the AOC is suspended, the fleet is gone, and the employees (52) are without pay and without hope. What was supposed to be the "Company made in Italy" is in fact vanished into thin air after not even 4 months of operation.
