The reopening of borders, the end of restrictions and the desire to travel again have reshaped the top ten longest flights in the world. The top spot is firmly in the hands of Singapore Airlines which with its direct connection from the Asian city-state and New York occupies the top two places in the ranking, the flight is in fact operated alternately at JFK and EWR, the two airports serving the Big Apple.
In this article:
This ranking will be disrupted Since the arrival of "project sunrise", or the direct connection between Sydney, London and New York starting in 2025.
In this context, obviously the pandemic is still playing a role since, for example, the world's second longest commercial route, the Qatar flight from Doha to Auckland, is currently suspended. Other routes, however, have been announced for the coming months.
We deliberately excluded flights that at cause of the war in Ukraine have, at the moment, a longer route such as the Cathay Pacific flight connecting Hong Kong with New York, which today, having to avoid flying over Russia and Ukraine is the longest ever.
The updated ranking as of April 2022
#1 Singapore - New York (16,668 km, 18 hours 45 minutes)

The longest flight from Italy
As of this year, there is also Italy on the list of the world's longest routes. Of course we are outside the TOP5, but it is still the 18th longest flight in the world. We are talking about the direct flight from Rome to Perth, continuing on to Sydney which will take off in July falls on the list of the most extreme long hauls.
The distance in kilometers is 13,354 and the duration of the flight, aboard Qantas' Dreamliner, is just over 16 hours: clearly the longest flight departing from an Italian airport.
Traditionally the longest direct connection from Italy has always been to South America, at this time it is the flight from Fiumicino to Buenos Aires planned by ITA Airways' new schedule starting next June 2.
