Air traffic, nearly 10 mln passengers in Italy in March: Palermo, Bari and Brindisi above 2019 levels

Italian airports close the month of March with almost 10 million passengers (9,848,164) reaching the 70% of pre-pandemic volumes..

Extremely positive results from some airports that have even exceeded 2019 levels as Palermo +0.6%, Bari +2.5% e Brindisi +4.7%. Equally noteworthy are the numbers of airports that have almost reached pre-Covid levels: Catania -7.5% and Bergamo -5.7%. We also report the significant increase of traffic at most regional airports: Trapani, Lampedusa, Alghero, Perugia, Cuneo, Crotone, Taranto-Grottaglie, Bolzano and Grosseto.
The national market, with 4,255,193 passengers, confirms the good performance recorded in recent months by standing at a -13,6% compared with 2019. The international segment also recovered with 5,554,645 travelers, -38,4%, corresponding to more than 60% of pre-Covid traffic: this is the best result achieved since pandemic began.
The number of movements, amounting to 97,695, confirms the recovery trend marking a -18,1% On the volumes observed in 2019.
In addition, the growth of the cargo with 98,955 tons by goods transported and a +1,8% on 2019. Driving it is the port of Milan Malpensa accounting for 68% of total freight traffic and registering a +33,6% On pre-pandemic levels.
Overall, the data recorded in March cast encouraging signs for the season summer, despite the uncertainty that remains because of the conflict in Ukraine.
