Low cost airlines, even the name says it, offer flights at LOW COST. They can offer cheap flights for a whole range of reasons, for example, the seats are all in economy, so tight and space-saving; you pay for practically everything extra such as food, carry-on luggage, seat, etc., and use some stratagems to save on the staff.

In this article:

Space on board: which low cost "gives" more inches for legs
Space on board: which low cost "gives" more inches for legs

One such stratagem is used by EasyJet which will remove a row of seats on some of its aircraft in a way that will reduce the number of crew members, while still meeting European safety standards.

EasyJet, however, claims that it had to resort to this solution not to save money, but because of the shortage by staff during the summer months, which are usually more hectic.

This is the removed row as seen as there has been a fair bit of interest in the tweet. Thanks to an anonymous source for the image https://t.co/ujGyw41FVS pic.twitter.com/rguFoYzyI7

The aircraft that suffered the "cut" is the Airbus A319, the most small of the EasyJet fleet. European safety regulations require airlines to employ 1 flight attendant each 50 passengers, thus taking away an entire row can give up the fourth crew member.

In fact, the Airbus 319 can accommodate exactly. 156 passengers, with one less row we arrive at 150 round round and then 3 flight attendants. In fact, the A319s were designed to accommodate just 150 passengers in such a way as to go under the threshold, however, EasyJet has added a row in order to maximize seating, amortizing the cost of a flight attendant with the 6 extra tickets sold.

In recent weeks, EasyJet has been forced to delete hundreds of flights due to staffing shortages, mainly due to high sickness rates and slow checks for hiring new staff.
