Starting next July, all passengers on the ITA Airways Catania - Milan flight, after checking in on the web or at the airport, will be able to go to the "land side" of the departure area to use the innovative Reco Welcome-Kiosk facial recognition machine, which will be used to associate the traveler's face with his electronic ID and boarding pass. This will enable him or her to easily and quickly get through security checks and gate procedures without having to show their ID or boarding pass at any other time.
Face Boarding, through advanced technologies, involves the integration of computer vision and video analysis techniques, in order to implement biometric verification and identification scenarios, based on "face recognition," capable of analyzing in real time the faces of travelers who pass through the various security check-points until they arrive at the boarding gate at Catania airport, in "hands free" mode , that is, without showing ID and/or boarding pass, greatly facilitating and speeding up the boarding stages.
The project reflects one of ITA Airways' pillars of digitization, which underlies the development of new technologies to serve the flag carrier's customers.
