Period of reorganization in the Costa Cruises world: after the news spread in recent days of the Costa Luminosa's transfer under the Carnival brand, Today is the turn of the last two ships built in Italy by Fincantieri, namely Costa Venezia and Costa Firenze.
In this article:
These two units were designed for the Asian market. and particularly for Chinese clientele. Venice had just begun operations when the outbreak of the pandemic froze Chinese tourism and effectively disrupted expansion plans in this market by all the world's cruise lines.
Since then Florence and Venice have been cruising in the Mediterranean, and today comes the announcement that, starting in the coming months, the Costa brand will make its full debut in the U.S. market with Costa by Carnival cruises.
The new cruise concept COSTA® by CARNIVAL® dedicated to Carnival's North American guests will debut in spring 2023, when Costa Venezia joins Carnival's fleet. Costa Venezia will be followed by Costa Firenze, which will arrive in spring 2024.
Carnival will operate Costa Venezia and Costa Firenze with an offering that will combine Costa's Italian style with the great service, food, and entertainment that Carnival guests appreciate. In the meantime, the ships will continue to operate their planned Costa itineraries until they are handed over to Carnival.
"We are excited to see these iconic Costa ships make their U.S. debut under the leadership and management of our sister brand. Costa will provide its beautiful Italian-designed ships and Carnival will offer Italian-style entertainment," said Mario Zanetti, General Manager of Costa Cruises. "Given the slow restart of operations in Asia and the strong restart of cruising in the United States, we decided to seize this opportunity to allow the many North American guests to appreciate the unique features of our ships, creating synergies within this important market."
"This is an extraordinary opportunity for us to operate two more beautiful Vista-class ships in the United States and to offer a unique experience to those who love the culture, food and atmosphere of Italy," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. "There are several ways in which we intend to create an immersive experience for our guests who choose a cruise on these ships, which, with their Italian design elements, restaurants and stores, will offer Carnival's entertainment while leveraging the Italian spirit of our sister company Costa."
