Oman Air will become the 14th airline in the Oneworld alliance. The Muscat-based carrier has made it official to join the alliance that features British Airways, American Airlines, Qatar, and Qantas as its main carriers.
In this article:
This is not a surprise since management had already announced its intention to join this alliance last year. Oneworld, as announced by its chairman, aims to become the leading network of global airlines and in recent years has added, in addition to Oman, also Alaska and Royal Air Maroc.
What changes for Italian frequent flyers
At the moment it changes little, however once the carrier is fully integrated into the alliance, it will be possible to use points from British Airways or Cathay Pacific loyalty programs to book an award ticket and fly with the Middle Eastern carrier. Of course, this will also mean that those with status in one of the companies in the same alliance will be able to take advantage of certain privileges, for example, access to the beautiful lounge in Muscat and accumulation of points with flights operated with this carrier.
Oman currently flies to Italy from Malpensa and operates a network of more than 60 destinations worldwide. The airline operates a fleet of about 50 aircraft, ranging from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner to the Airbus A330 to the Boeing 737.
