In this article:
The 20 Ryanair aircraft based at Milan Bergamo, 10 of which are more environmentally efficient "Gamechangers" (4% more seats, 16% less fuel, and 40% less noise emissions) represent an investment of more than $2 billion, generate 600 highly paid direct jobs and more than 9,500 indirect jobs at Milan Bergamo Airport.
Ryanair plans to carry 12.2 million passengers for fiscal year 2023, 1.6 million more than pre-pandemic period, offering travelers departing from Bergamo a wide choice of European destinations and giving Lombard tourism a much-needed boost after complicated years for the industry.
Ryanair Italy Country Manager Mauro Bolla said:
"As Europe's greenest airline, Ryanair is pleased to take another step forward in making aviation more sustainable by celebrating 12 months of Boeing 737-8200 Gamechanger at Milan Bergamo Airport. This strategy is in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement and the United Nations Global Compact. Through it, we are committed to innovating and promoting through our business sustainable environmental and social practices that will benefit the planet, our staff and our customers."
"We are pleased to maintain our longstanding partnership with Milan Bergamo Airport, where our fleet includes 10 environmentally friendly Gamechanger aircraft offering 4% more seats, consuming 16% less fuel and reducing noise emissions by 40%. This not only reinforces Ryanair's commitment to Italy, but also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to sustainable aviation as Europe's greenest and cleanest airline.".
Giacomo Cattaneo, SACBO Commercial Aviation Director, said:
"The anniversary of the first operational flight of the Boeing 737-8200 Gamechanger from Milan Bergamo Airport allows us to highlight Ryanair's choice to allocate ten aircraft of this type, which make up the 50% of its currently based fleet, to our airport. A choice that combines higher performance efficiency and environmental sustainability with the Gamechanger's greater load capacity, meeting the objectives shared by the airline and airport management company.
"In the recovery phase of air traffic," he concluded, "the use of such an innovative aircraft makes a significant contribution to the gradual return to pre-pandemic levels of passenger traffic. We expect a further improving effect with the implementation of the number of Gamechanger aircraft based by Ryanair at Milan Bergamo."
