Here at TFC we are always looking for ways to accumulate points and miles without spending anything. Of course in general the rule is not to spend anything more than what you would normally spend, in this case however I want to tell about a different way: Earn free points and miles while sitting on the couch and without even having your credit card nearby.
In this article:
There is nothing illegal, as always in our strategies, and in this case the accumulation is done by answering surveys. Many loyalty programs are linked to platforms that, in exchange for time spent answering questions, reward the user with points.
How these surveys work
Surely you have come across advertisements that talk about getting paid for answering surveys; this is something similar, except that the payment is not in cash or coupons to spend in stores, but in points from various loyalty programs.
Each frequent flyer has its own platform, and you can of course register on as many as you want by linking your personal profile.
Once you have registered on the various platforms and completed your profiling form, all you have to do is wait for invitations to be sent to us to participate in one or more surveys.
Each survey, depending on duration and complexity, rewards the respondent with a fixed number of points from the chosen program. Welcome bonuses are also often provided.
Things to know about surveys
Answering these questions, unless you suffer from insomnia or have endless hours to invest, will not give you a prize ticket to go around the world. It is, however, a great way to Move your account and prevent your points from expiring due to profile inactivity. Moreover, if we are a few handfuls of points short of getting the prize ticket, it is a strategy that, on dull winter evenings on the couch, can allow us to accumulate a few thousand without too much trouble.
It is good to know that the transfer may not be immediate, so it is not something to be planned last minute. Although from experience with Avios and Hilton, I can assure you that it is almost instantaneous.
My advice is to choose carefully who you register with, because on average you will receive many emails with invitations to participate in this or that survey.
You are not always "in the target audience" for the survey, in which case you are kicked out immediately. The first questions are used to identify the sample: if the survey is designed for a family with children and the question how many children are in your family is answered "Zero," you will end up on a concluding screen where it is explained that the survey in question is not for us.
Which programs offer paid surveys
As is often the case we are talking mainly about loyalty programs made in the USA, but in some cases they are great for us Italians as well.
Hilton is the one I use the most, because there are often thousands of points up for grabs for answering a series of questions, and since sometimes 5,000 points is enough for a night in a hotel, it is a highly profitable strategy. The platform used is called Guest Rewards and in the past there have also been 10 thousand Hilton Honors point welcome bonuses.
The other one I use is Avios for thoughts and allows you to accumulate not only points in the British Airways Executive Club, but also in Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling programs.
Of course there are so many programs, I will stop to list the ones that may make sense for an Italian traveler:
- American Airlines: Miles for Opinions
- JetBlue: Points for Surveys
- Southwest Airlines: Rewards for Opinions
- United Airlines: Opinion Miles Club
Many of these programs are managed through the e-rewards. Independent program that, however, allows the user to choose to accumulate their rewards in a host of other loyalty programs. At the time of writing, no new members are being accepted, but things may have changed, so a click to check costs nothing.
In conclusion
Answering surveys while watching a series on Netflix, while standing in line at the dentist or on the subway headed to work, allows you to be an ant and accumulate points, which sooner or later will come in handy to book a night in the Maldives or a flight from Milan to London (free of charge).
