They kicked off, as of Monday, July 11, the Trenitalia's new services to enhance the integration of rail and air, with direct High-Speed connections between Fiumicino airport and Southern Italy and the upgrading of current connections to the Center of the country.

In detail, Trenitalia's offerings to and from Fiumicino airport are enriched by. Three new Frecciarossa connections, two to and from Naples and one departing from Florence Santa Maria Novella, and are in addition to the Frecce to and from Venice, Padua, Bologna, Florence and Rome, the direct Leonardo Express between Fiumicino and Roma Termini, and the numerous regional connections on the FL1 Fiumicino Aeroporto - Roma - Orte line.

The connections and schedules were studied by Trenitalia and Aeroporti di Roma to find the best integration between high-speed trains and intercontinental flights arriving and departing from Italy's first airport hub in favor of greater integration between rail and air and with the aim of consolidating Leonardo da Vinci Airport's role as a smart hub. With these connections, the passenger will be able to be in New York in the early afternoon by leaving early in the morning from Naples or Florence, guaranteeing a better union between collective and shared means of transport, an objective at the heart of the activities of the FS Group's Passenger Hub, which brings together all of the Group's transport companies.

In line with government and European strategy on the development and encouragement of intermodality, the launch of the new connections is a concrete result of the agreement on sustainable mobility signed last March 17 by Luigi Ferraris, CEO FS Italiane, and Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma. An agreement that also aims to make passenger and baggage check-in available in the near future, in coordination with ENAC, directly at the train station of departure.
