Are you a former Millemiglia user, here's how to get (almost free) status with ITA Airways' Volare

Many users enrolled in the Millemiglia program this summer they realized that their card was now expired and (almost) meaningless. To the rescue comes ITA Airways, which has launched the third status match campaign in less than 12 months.
I do not have direct sources, but I could bet that the reason this decision was made is precisely to throw one last lifeline to Millemiglia members who had missed the previous two campaigns.
In this article:
This new campaign is different, both in mode and in the frequent flyer programs accepted. First thing you notice is that all SkyTeam carriers are missing.
What is status match
This practice is used by loyalty programs to "steal" members from competing programs. Those who issue it guarantee the same benefits to the traveler
In the last 24 months we have seen so many such campaigns. Some targeted on a specific loyalty program (e.g., Virgin Atlantic's directed to British Airways Executive Club members), others, such as ITA's or TAP's, open to all.
Hotel chains also make them, it is IHG's just expired, and the cruise lines such as MSC.
Requirements to participate in ITA's Status Match campaign.
Here's what you need to participate in the Volare - ITA Airways status match campaign from August 2 to September 15, 2022.
PS The following may not take part in this campaign of Status Match those who have already joined previous editions of the same campaign and have already been granted access to one of the Exclusive Clubs.
- Enroll in ITA Airways' Flying program, if you are not already a member
- Be in possession of an airline ticket in their own name at the same time sold and operated by ITA Airways. Eligible tickets will only be those with a travel date after August 2, 2022
- Be in possession of a premium card from a loyalty program of one of the airlines listed below. Valid cards will be accepted as well as those with expiration dates in 2019-2020-2021-2022. This excludes, but would not make sense otherwise, entry levels.
There are 22 provenance programs accepted in total, and the Millemiglia program is obviously present:
- Alitalia - Millemiglia
- Air India - Flying Returns
- American Airlines - Aadvantage
- ANA - Mileage club
- Avianca - LifeMiles
- British Airways - Executive Club
- Cathay Pacific - Marco Polo Club
- EL Al - Matmid
- Emirates - Skywards
- Gol Airlines - Smiles
- Iberia - Iberia Plus
- Japan Airlines - Jal Mileage Bank
- Latam - Latam Pass
- Lufthansa - Miles and More
- Qatar Airways- Privilege Club
- Royal Jordanian - Royal Club
- Singapore Airlines - KrisFlyer
- Swiss Air - Miles & More
- TAP - Miles & Go
- Turkish Airways - Miles & Smile
- United Airlines - Mileage plus
- Vistara - Club Vistara
Singular that ITA as an example of recognized valid statuses also puts those in the Flying Blue program, which, however, is excluded.
The new status and related digital card will be recognized in ITA Airways systems as soon as the matching process is completed, and members will receive an email service notice confirming such recognition within 60 days of the request. If status matching fails, members will receive a negative outcome email.
How to Apply for a Status Match?
- If you are not already enrolled, sign up for the Volare program
- Send an email from the address you signed up with to fly to [email protected] by following the instructions listed:
- Report in the subject line of the email: Status Match 2022
- Indicate in the text of the 'email: First name; Last name; "Program of origin" and "Status of origin" (e.g., Miles & More - HON Circle); Frequent Flyer Volare number; Ticket number (according to the criteria listed in item 2 of the summary conditions)
- Attach a legible copy of your current valid frequent flyer program card (digital or physical) and a copy of your ID card 1 (pdf, jpg format)
Your Status Match request will be reviewed and an email will be sent to you to confirm whether your status has been recognized within 60 days.
One key piece of information is missing from the site, i.e. how long will the status that is granted be valid, I imagine for 12 months from the date of issue or more likely until January 2024.
In conclusion
Over the past few months many readers have written to us asking how to recover the old Millemiglia status, here is the answer. Of course, many will say, "They could have done it earlier." since the timeline is tight and not everyone has a ticket in their pocket to fly by September 22, or can book a flight in August/September last minute.
