As an electric vehicle owner, I must say that the absence in 2022 of "serious" charging stations at airports is an absurd problem, as is (if not greater than) the almost total lack on the highway network. And it is not just an Italian issue: Nice, France's second airport, has only one charging station in P5 in front of terminal 2. In fact, it is not even a charging station it is a wallbox in a very bad location.
In this article:
Things, however, are finally changing, in recent weeks both Linate and Fiumicino (soon to be Malpensa) have equipped themselves with real, well-marked charging stations with an adequate number of locations.
Linate's electrical "distributor"
The first Superfast Charging Station has been opened at Milan Linate Airport, Among the largest charging stations in an international airport. Covered by canopies and equipped with 5 ultrafast columns (with power output up to 300kW), the Superfast Charging Station at Milan Linate Airport Will allow 10 vehicles to be charged at the same time.
The points make it possible to recharge the latest generation of cars in 15 to 20 minutes, will be operational 24 hours a day and will accept all forms of payment with the main Mobility Service Providers. The charging stations at Milan airports, as well as those on Autostrade per l'Italia's network, are powered by 100% renewable energy and represent the highest technological standard in terms of capacity and reliability currently available.
The activation comes after that of the first multistandard fast column (with CCS2 and CHAdeMO connectors in DC and Type2 in AC) on the roadway in front of the Arrivals area, which users have been able to use for several weeks now. At Malpensa Airport, on the other hand, 4 columns will be installed, including 3 ultrafast ones, capable of charging 7 vehicles in parallel. The project launched today also includes 2 additional columns, including one superfast (up to 150kW), capable of charging 4 electric cars at a time, installed in areas outside the Terminals dedicated to private aviation.
The charging station at Fiumicino
The first two ultra-rapid charging points in the T3 Short Stop parking area are available to passengers Leonardo da Vinci Airport. Another 16 ultra-rapid charging points powered by 100% from renewable sources will be installed at Rome Fiumicino airport in the coming months. Another 14, which will go into operation by the end of the year, will be distributed among the parking lots at the departures and arrivals of Terminals 1 and 3 and those reserved for car rentals with drivers. They will be equipped, like the ones inaugurated, with ad hoc signage and furniture elements with the aim of offering travelers an intuitive as well as ultra-fast e-mobility experience.
The charging stations, available to airport customers and the public 24 hours a day every day, are usable by all electric vehicles and compatible with every charging standard and e-mobility service provider.
