Oktoberfest is officially back and will be celebrated for the first time since 2019. Two years of absolute stop due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A highly anticipated event in Germany, which promises to attract a lot more people than usual, considering the eagerness to return to that festive atmosphere in Munich. During the interruption Lufthansa has gone on to celebrate Oktoberfest, and now that everything is back to normal, it has thoughtfully planned to celebrate in a special way. The same goes for Emirates, which has pleasant surprises in store for all passengers flying to one of the four airports in Germany where the carrier is scheduled to land.
In this article:
Oktoberfest started on September 17 and continues until October 3. A record had been set in 2019: as many as 6.3 million participants who drank more than 7.3 million liters of beer. A world-famous event with an impressive 200-year history. It is the world's largest folk festival, capable of producing 1.2 billion euros in profits under normal conditions. This time, with a two-year hiatus behind it, the figures could improve considerably. In its two centuries of history it has been canceled only 26 times, mainly due to World War I and World War II. Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter's choice was both exalted and opposed: "When I announced my choice in April, not everyone was enthusiastic. I also received critical letters from citizens. However, I don't think it makes sense not to celebrate for too long. Even in the most difficult times there is a need for distraction. At the same time, however, it was not easy to say yes to the initiative."
Lufthansa celebrates Oktoberfest.
Lufthansa is Germany's national airline, and a worthy celebration of Oktoberfest is expected from it. It is something that happens every year on board the carrier's planes. But what does it mean, specifically, to celebrate the beer festival in flight? On some routes it will be possible to see the crew replace their usual uniform with traditional Bavarian dress: Lederhosen for men and Dirndls for women. The outfits, which have been modified in recent years in the name of sustainability, will also be worn by ground staff. Refreshments inspired by the beer festival will also be offered in Lufthansa's Munich lounge, as well as on board flights to and from Frankfurt and Munich, at least for First and Business Class.

Emirates celebrates Oktoberfest
There are four destinations in Germany served by Emirates: Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. The service will be slightly different to celebrate Oktoberfest. No change of uniform, but themed refreshments for passengers. If you travel in economy, you will get roast chicken and a slice of typical German cake, Bienenstich. For First customers, however, as well as those in Business, the menu includes a veal dish with dumplings and vegetables. In First there is also a steamed bun, Dampfnudel. Snacks on board and in the lounge will also be holiday-themed. Everyone will then be able to leave the plane with gingerbread hearts.
