Adding this new destination to its global network, Aeromexico will operate three weekly flights on the Rome-Mexico City route, increasing to five flights by June 1. This will also benefit Italian customers in cities such as Milan, Turin, Genoa, Venice, Florence, Naples, Catania and Bologna, who will enjoy more efficient connections throughout Mexico and also to Central/South America and the Caribbean.
With the new flights, Aeromexico's offer to connect the European continent with Mexico will increase by more than 20% over the summer of 2022, operating 54 weekly frequencies. This is the largest operation in the company's history between the two territories, flying with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the safest, most modern, efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft in existence.
In this regard, Pasquale Speranza, Aeromexico's Europe and Asia sales director commented: "We are very excited to add another destination on the European continent, which is the result of Aeromexico's ongoing work and commitment to connect the region with the rest of the world. With this new flight we continue to make aviation history between Europe and Mexico."
"We are honored to welcome Aeromexico and the new direct flight between Rome and Mexico City," says Federico Scriboni, Head of Aviation Business Development at Aeroporti di Roma. "According to IATA sources, in 2019 more than 220,000 passengers flew between Italy and Mexico representing a high-potential traffic basin for air, economic and cultural connectivity between the 2 countries. We are confident that the launch of this route will help improve accessibility, developing flows and exchanges between Central and Southern Europe and Central America. After a record summer for North American airlines, which in October recorded +20% passengers compared to the same month 2019, Rome is confirmed to be one of the most sought-after destinations also for the upcoming Summer 2023."
Mexico is one of the top five countries in tourism worldwide, with nearly 32 million visitors in the last year. It is famous for its beaches, colonial cities, gastronomy and cultural richness.
The Mexican ambassador to Italy, Carlos García de Alba, said, "The opening of the direct flight between Mexico City and Rome is extraordinary news. It is the result of several years of work and represents recognition by the Aeromexico Group of the potential of bilateral relations between Mexico and Italy. This new route will not only promote tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries, but will also serve to promote greater economic and social growth between our countries. In Mexico we are ready to receive more Italian and European tourists in general. Without a doubt, this flight comes at the best of times and will be a great success."
"The reactivation of the direct flight between Rome and CDMX," added the Italian ambassador to Mexico, "fills a gap that has existed for the past two and a half years in the framework of the excellent relations between Italy and Mexico: the direct flight is an indispensable tool to materialize the potential of tourist flows between the two among the largest tourist countries in the world. The direct Rome-Mexico City connection is also of fundamental importance for business travel and will help further increase the economic-commercial relationship between the two countries."
The launch of direct operations between Rome and Mexico reflects Aeromexico's commitment to offer the best air connectivity network that will exceed 100 domestic and international routes by March 2023, operating under the highest safety and service standards in the airline industry.
