We have already talked on TFC about the Jewel, the structure that sprang up just before the pandemic near Singapore's Changi Airport. Under a vault of glass and concrete, there are 8 floors of shopping, dining, entertainment and a madness like tropical forest.
In this article:
There are really so many things to do, here is all it offers:
#1 desk for early check-in and baggage boarding
With early check-in counters, you can get your boarding passes and ship your luggage hours before your flight, without having to wait to go to the airport.
This service is convenient to avoid lugging heavy suitcases all over the complex. Unfortunately, not all flights and all companies have activated this service, is currently reserved only for passengers on Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qantas, Qatar and Malaysia Airlines flights.
It is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and in order to use the service, you must show up at least 3 hours before your flight departs. The reason is simple: at that time normal passenger registration operations open in the terminal.
So if you have an evening flight you can go in the early afternoon to the Jewel, check in and engage with the many initiatives there, and then head straight to the gate.
#2 Luggage Storage
If you do not have access to early check-in it is possible to take advantage of luggage storage, which is located a few meters away. As the number of companies offering this service is currently limited, the alternative to carrying your luggage up and down the 8 floors of the complex is to use this service.
Not cheap, but considering that trolleys cannot be used in elevators, depending on how much time you plan to spend at Jewel it could be an investment that pays for itself In comfort and less stress.
#3 Changi lounge
There are more than 50 restaurants: from McDonalds to starred insignia such as Puntien, but if you don't want to spend anything there is the option of using the lounge.
There is a charge for admission, but you can get in for free if you are a Priority Pass holder. The lounge can also be used as a convenient resting place where you can relax while waiting for fellow travelers intent on shopping or while your children are engaged in some downtown attraction.
Among the services included is the ability to order a dish from the kitchen, or help yourself to the beverage buffet, and if you wish, even take a shower before leaving.
#4 Amusement Park
There are several attractions on level 5 of the Jewel. The most beautiful is dedicated to those who are not afraid of heights. A path of several hundred meters on the nets suspended above the center, areas to climb, nets to jump and do evolutions always tens of meters above the ground.
Beyond that is the observation deck, a glass floor that spans the entire rainforest below.
Then there is the Changi Experience, where thanks to technology it is possible to do many activities, such as piloting an aero on takeoff or landing in Singapore airport.
In the evening then the lighting also comes into play, the waterfall changes color and everything becomes even more magical.
#5 Hunting for rare plants
Jewel's tropical forest is home to 120 different plants that come from countries such as Australia, China, Malaysia, Spain, Thailand and the USA. Under a glass dome, temperature and humidity are kept under control to maintain the perfect habitat for flowers, trees and more to grow.
The terraces that house all the greenery in this marvel are reminiscent of the views of the Cinque Terre and the dry stone walls typical of Liguria.
#6 When to visit the Jewel
One might say, "Imagine if I go to Singapore and lock myself in a mall." Having said that with the temperature and humidity outside, malls are a blessing, this is NOT a cliché; there is no such place in the world, not even in Dubai.
Here's why depending on the arrival or departure time of the flight my advice is to consider going there as soon as you land, especially if you want to avoid jet lag. Or, depending on the departure time of the flight move earlier from the city to the airport. The trip usually takes less than 30 minutes.
If you are a fan of adventure parks, or have children, I would say that the time required is no less than 3 long hours before checking in. However, if you want to have enough time just to look around or enjoy the forest and plants, an hour or so is more than enough.
For shopping do it here or in the thousand thousand malls and stores on Orchard Road there is not much difference, Are always the same signs repeated over and over again
