Volotea, seventh European base in Florence: here are the new destinations
Starting next year, 9 new connections, including Palermo, Catania, Bari, Cagliari, Bilbao and Toulouse
Volotea strengthens its ties with Tuscany. The low-cost carrier announced that it has chosen the Florentine capital as its seventh Italian base and 19th in Europe.
In this article:
Florence will join the carrier's already operational bases in Italy (Venice, Verona, Palermo, Naples, Cagliari and Olbia), France (Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Lourdes, Marseille, Nantes, Strasbourg and Toulouse), Spain (Asturias and Bilbao), Greece (Athens) and Germany (Hamburg).
In 2023 the airline will station an Airbus A319 at the Vespucci and launch 9 new routes to Palermo, Catania, Bari, Cagliari, Bilbao, Toulouse and 3 new destinations that will only be unveiled in the coming weeks.
These new routes are in addition to those to Bordeaux and Nantes (another recently announced new 2023 route), for a total of 11 available connections, representing a total supply of 305,000 tickets. Of the 8 routes for sale at the moment, as many as 6 are operated exclusively by the carrier. Finally, the company estimates the creation of about 30 new jobs, 20 cabin crew and 10 pilots, related to the opening of the base.
The opening of the new base in Florence, scheduled for April 2023, further strengthens the link with the territory: in addition to the Florence airport, in fact, the low-cost company's flights are also available at Pisa airport, from which it will again be possible to take off from next summer to Olbia and Nantes.
Volotea's offer at the Florentine capital perfectly reflects the company's strategy for 2023 to facilitate travel to the islands and abroad: at Vespucci, more than half of the seats on sale (54%) will be to Sardinia and Sicily.
By 2023, connections will be available from Florence to France (Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Nantes), Spain (Bilbao), and Italy (Palermo, Catania, Bari, and Cagliari). Three new routes will be announced in the coming weeks.
Volotea expects more than 4.3 million seats on sale in 2023 in Italy, which is 10% more than in 2019, the pre-prendemic period. The number of routes is also growing, rising to about 130 for a total of more than 25,000 flights.
Ensuring connectivity between the islands and the mainland has always been a priority for Volotea; in particular, seats on flights to the islands will correspond to 74% of the total offer, with a total of 3.2 million seats for sale. Finally, at the network level, Volotea will increase international flights from 23% in 2022 to 37% in 2023.
