This was not my first visit to this hotel, back in 2015 I had stayed a few days at this facility, so I decided to go back to see if the good memories were still valid or not. All in all, things have not gotten worse.
Reservation
In this article:
These hotels are always booked only through the app or the Hilton website to receive the benefits provided by the status or to obtain the status. Gold status gives away breakfast and every stay this advantage means saving no less than 15 to 20 euros per day.
The level Gold in the Hilton Honors program you can have it for free included in the annual fee for American Express Platinum or by staying in the group's various facilities around the world. Also, if you have the status, you can always book the basic room and very often, if not always, you will have a better room than the one you booked.
The cost of one night in this period is about 3500 bath, just over 100€, possibly you can book it at a cost of 28k HH points. Let's say it is not a very convenient conversion, but If you aim to take advantage of the fifth free night, then it could be a good way to invest 112k points and save about 600€.
Location
This hotel Is named after the neighborhood where it is located: Sukhumvit. It is, however, a couple of BTS stops away or a few minutes by cab, traffic permitting, from the liveliest part of BKK's nightlife.
If you want to be within walking distance of Nana Plaza and the other "hot spots "of the Thai capital's nightlife, then it is not the best as a position. In contrast If you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of night and excess, it is in a perfect location.
Perfect because a 5-minute walk away is the BTS stop, which is the surface train that connects the nerve centers of the city. In this area there are also Hilton Sukhumvit, Hyatt Place and many other hotels.
Check-in
As soon as I got out of the cab, the attendant picked up my suitcase, Doubletree is one of the middle insignia of the Hilton portfolio, so this service is not a given.
I arrived mid-afternoon at the hotel, very quick registration procedures and bad news. The hotel was full and therefore they could not upgrade me at all, except to give me a room on the top floor of the facility, the 23rd.
The structure
The hotel is as I remembered it, beautiful and colorful.
On the seventh floor are the swimming pool with an attached bar and a small gym. The pool is open late and is perfect for taking a dip in the evening when you return to the hotel after a long day in the humid capital of the Kingdom of Thailand.
Here you can also relax in the cool of the fans or do a couple of exercises in the small gym that overlooks the pool itself.
On the ground floor is the restaurant that serves as the breakfast room in the morning, which is also exactly as I remembered it.
The room
My room was the classic basic room in a hotel of this category., having received no upgrade was the smallest of those offered in this Doubletree. When the hotel is full, it is not always easy to get upgrades, especially in facilities like the Doubletree that generally do not have as many suites or larger rooms.
On my previous visit instead we had received an upgrade to a suite, which was very nice, unfortunately this time I had to make do with the standard room.
Room that has a bathroom that is open to the room and from which you can look out the window while showering or brushing your teeth, of course you can slide the wall and it will go back to being a bathroom without a view, but with privacy.
The amenities were also standard for this type of hotel. Unfortunately, the view is not the best, especially from my corner, but you can't have everything.
Food & Beverage
As mentioned there is a bar restaurant on the pool level. Since this hotel does not have a lounge, Diamond guests can enjoy one free drink per day at this bar. There is a small dedicated list: from soft drinks to cocktails and spirits.
Breakfast is exactly as I remembered it and is definitely above average of facilities at this level, both in quantity and quality of supply.
The buffet runs all along the counter of the open kitchen. It starts with savory, eggs prepared as you prefer. It then moves on to the Asian side of the offering, with a noodle station for ordering and seasoning your own dish. You then come to the desserts, with daily specials and an array of excellent local jams.
The buffet continues with the cold section, cold cuts and cheeses. Not forgetting cereals, salad bar and even a section for those with special dietary requests. All the way to the juice area (not fresh unfortunately) and yogurt. In short there is everything and there are enough foods to make the right energy charge before diving into the city tour.
In conclusion
A hotel absolutely to consider if you are traveling to Bangkok with your family, or even if you are in a couple. The price is always competitive although some new proposals that have popped up around town in recent years are probably cooler than this Doubletree.
Pro
- The position
- Breakfast
- The price can be really cheap
Against
