Enac, IATA (International Air Transport Association), ITA Airways, Air Dolomiti and Neos together to simplify and make fully accessible airport and onboard aircraft assistance reservation systems and useful information for people with disabilities and reduced mobility: this is the concept of the project One Click Away which will be operational from tomorrow, December 3, at the International Day for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
In this article:
For the first time, a network consisting of institutions, national airlines, and industry associations (FISH, FIABA, FAND, ANGLAT, and ASSOFLY) has been established with the common goal of breaking down barriers and making air travel easy and fully accessible for all passengers, indiscriminately, no one excluded.
Participating airlines have created immediate and intuitive paths on their websites expressly dedicated to assisting passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility to allow direct and unambiguous access, to information on air travel arrangements and related to their rights.
With a single click from the home page of the three participating carriers' websites, a path made of uniform and clear content, characterized by the same layout and the same order of topics covered, is started. The icons, images and texts have been shared and approved by the trade associations ANGLAT / FAND for the Italian version and Open Doors Organization for the English version, in order to operate in accordance with the sensitivities and needs of each.
Simplification begins, therefore, with the use of the wheelchair icon, positioned in the upper right-hand corner of institutional home pages, to make it immediately identifiable which is the first click to start searching for information of interest.
Once the dedicated page is opened, the user has immediate access to information essential for booking assistance with the air carrier. In the same section, it will be possible to access a list of useful topics for the passenger.
The initiation of the project One Click Away right on World Day dedicated to the rights of people with disabilities, highlights what the primary goal and interest of all stakeholders is: to work together to make the quality and experience of air travel better for everyone.
"The project," declares Enac President Pierluigi Di Palma - is part of Enac's broader strategy to simplify the flying experience for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility. Being able to fly and travel in a globalized way, according to our mission, should be a right for everyone. Being able to count, with the coordination of IATA, on companies sensitive to this issue, such as ITA Airways, Air Dolomiti and Neos, is a source of pride for us, since we are talking about three Italian carriers. One Click Away is the business card, the first gateway for disabled passengers, to the airport and air transport world. A way to say that we are attentive to their needs and requirements."
Rafael Schvartzman, Regional Vice President Europe, IATA commented, "Airlines are strongly committed to ensuring that passengers enjoy dignified and accessible air travel for all. The booking process is the first point of contact for the passenger and the calling card of every airline. IATA welcomes and supports this initiative in Italy and hopes this project will become standard practice in our industry."
"Participating in One Click Away, in addition to the intrinsic value of the project, allows us to advance an important goal of ours," said Fabio Maria Lazzerini Managing Director and General Manager of ITA Airways -ensuring equal access to air travel for all while tailoring the service to each individual's needs. Doing this together with institutions and in synergy with other carriers is a fine example of collaboration on a social issue that transcends the particular interests of individual companies.".
"We have worked with IATA, ENAC and the other airlines to achieve aligned and harmonious communication so that our passengers can find, in a dedicated section, comprehensive information on passenger care. I think this is a fine example of synergy, and I hope the project will become a best practice for airlines across Europe," comments Commander Alberto Casamatti, General Manager Operations & Accountable Manager of. Air Dolomiti
Charles Stradiotti, CEO of Neos, concludes, "One Click Away is an advocacy tool to standardize responses, expedite and simplify procedures, and provide a clear and detailed picture of the services made available to passengers."
