The 5-star rating, obtained at the end of an in-depth analysis of terminal services and facilities conducted during 2022, recognizes the "Leonardo da Vinci" excellent standards in the quality of service provided to passengers and staff activity.
Over the past 2 years, despite the effects of the pandemic crisis, Fiumicino airport has consistently maintained very high quality standards, even during the period of strong traffic recovery. At the same time, the continuation of development investments has been ensured, which have enabled, among other things, the opening of the new boarding area A for an additional capacity of 6 million passengers, the enhancement of the range of operational services, with new areas reserved for security and immigration checks, and the expansion of the commercial offer, thanks to new shopping and dining areas.
Skytrax applies ratings to more than 800 areas of passenger-facing airport products and services across more than 30 different areas. The Star Rating methodology is unified and consistent across the industry, and all airports, from the largest hubs to small regional facilities, are rated using the same basic criteria that cover the entire passenger travel experience. With the 5 stars, Fiumicino joins a select group of global hubs of the highest excellence, including Seoul, Singapore, Tokyo and Munich.

Skytrax praised terminal operations due to passengers who rated security and immigration controls as very efficient, even as a result of the introduction of new systems to speed up and ease the way to the gates. Enhancement of the airport will continue with the upcoming reopening of Pier B in Terminal 1, scheduled for spring, after a major renovation under the highest standards of interior finish and decorative appeal.
The dedicated baggage claim area in Terminal 3 has also been renovated and new passenger assistance services will be introduced soon. Particularly appreciated then are the restrooms, which provide an exceptional experience for passengers. In fact, the "Leonardo da Vinci" guarantees a very high standard of cleanliness and efficiency, managed directly by a cleaning team from Aeroporti di Roma.
