This hotel, like the Sheraton Parco de Medici, is very near Fiumicino airport and is mainly suitable for those who Needs to sleep near the airport, perhaps for an early morning departure. Sure the most convenient hotel is definitely the Hilton Roma Fiumicino, which is connected directly to the airport, but if you are a loyal Marriott customer and avid accumulator of Bonovy points, these two are the best choices.
Reservation
In this article:
I had to sleep one night in Rome In view of my flight On board ITA Airways' new A220., the debut with the Rome-Genoa flight. I chose this facility because of its proximity to the airport, the decidedly competitive price (118 euros) and especially because this Was my 75th night in a Marriott Hotel in 2022..
The night that for the first time in my life elevated me to the Titanium Elite level, In the Bonvoy loyalty program.
The structure
This hotel is a true cathedral that stands atop a small hill visible from the highway that connects Rome with Fiumicino. It is possible to travel to/from the hotel in about 15 minutes to the airport.
The hotel is really big. The lobby is huge and divides the two wings of the facility that house the rooms, two towers (A and B) with six floors. On the ground and lower floors are the meeting rooms, which are equally huge and can accommodate hundreds and hundreds of guests.
In the center of the immense lobby is the bar, and a little further on under a scenic window is the restaurant.
The ceiling in this area is painted like a faux sky, and the wall is an immense fresco depicting the Eternal City, seen right from the hill of the Marriott.
Check-in was nightmarish
Upon our arrival in the huge parking lot, we realized that some kind of event was going on. There were dozens of people dressed up. And in the lobby there were hundreds attending a corporate event.
Chaos on one side was also present on the other side, that is, from the check-in counters. Over 3o people waiting in line and only two receptionists, which was really crazy. A situation definitely out of the ordinary with the desk girls themselves complaining to each other about being alone in front of a flood of people.
The nice thing is that - although they were popping out from behind the door more staff - no one bothered to help the front desk dispose of the queue of people. In the late afternoon when I returned after a few hours, the situation had not changed at all: lots of people in line and few staff on the other side of the counter.
Also note how there is no fast track for elite guests, who are forced to queue like all other customers.
Upgrade on request
When the key was handed to me, I asked what kind of room I had been assigned., and I was not surprised to find that the upgrade was only to a room with a better view and not to a higher type of room. Only after pointing out that the upgrade provided for those with a platinum level or higher is not "limited to one level," but to the best available room, I was upgraded to a Junior Suite on the top floor of the hotel.
The room, little suite and very old
Already walking down the corridor you can see how this cathedral needs a complete makeover. Torn part paper, numbers missing on room doors, worn carpeting. In short, anything but 4-star hotel and Marriott quality.
Upon arrival in the room, the music does not change. First a Junior Suite, as Bruno Barbieri taught us at 4 hotels. should have two separate rooms, and this room did not have them.
According to the's vintage look can be seen by everything else in the room. The room is large, but as mentioned it is one room.
The furniture is not vintage, it is old. As old as the TV-a discontinued model and not at all smart.
The cabinet that hides the mini-bar is woefully old, as is the bed and all the room's options.
There is a beautiful and large walk-in closet, although I wonder what is the point of such a hotel, Since I doubt people will unpack.
The bathroom is large: there is everything from the bidet to the bathtub to a large shower, but again it is all lived in, it feels like entering a 1970s bathroom.
The most beautiful thing about the room is the large terrace, too bad there is no partition with that of the neighboring rooms, so no privacy.
In addition, everything is falling down. The motors of the ventilation system are on the roof above the room. It's basically like having the engines of an airplane running above your head all the time. And it's not like the rest of the room is soundproof, quite the contrary.
The executive lounge
Being platinum elite (and above) has the benefit of granting lounge access, if any. I must say that I always point to hotels that offer this benefit because it means savings. This was, however, perhaps the saddest (and oldest) lounge I have ever seen.
At lunchtime the offerings were limited to chips, peanuts and little more. In the evening I went down just before 8 o'clock and the small buffet was being dismantled. Buffet that reminded me of that of a bad apericena.
Again, the chaos at check-in affected the use of the lounge. The hours were not explained to me and there are no schedules in the lounge explaining the different services. It was enough to arrive 5 minutes later that I would not find anything to eat.
Services
The hotel, as mentioned, houses a convention center, which I did not visit. On the -1 floor is the spa, which seems desolately closed.
A gym with technogym equipment and the Executive Lounge.
Unfortunately, although it was almost 25 degrees outside, the pool was already closed, and probably would not have been accessible anyway since a buffet was being set up.
In conclusion
I did not take advantage of the breakfast as I had to go to the airport very early, but judging from what I saw I don't think I missed a banquet to remember. If the price is this, which is definitely lower than all the other hotels in the area and the Marriotts in Rome, it's fine for sleeping one night without passing out.
Pro
- The price
- Near the airport
Against
- Organization
- Chaos
- Lounge
- Not a true junior suite
