Qatar Privilege Club: reduced requirements, double points and free flights to students

Crackling start to the year for Qatar's loyalty program. The Privilege Club of the best company in the world launched a series of promotions aimed at its frequent flyer and non-frequent flyer members.

Reduced requirements to renew status

The first promotion is for frequent flyer members who have the opportunity to renew their status more easily by reducing the Qpoints required for those whose status is expiring by next March 31.

In fact, all eligible members are eligible for a discount on the Qpoints needed to maintain their Privilege Club level. To qualify for this offer, the level must expire between January 1 and March 31, 2023. Eligible members will then enjoy the discount, while if the status expires on or after April 1, 2023, the requirements will be standard.

For example, a Platinum member with a level expiration date of February 15, 2023 will have the option of accumulating only 400 Qpoints to maintain their level for 12 months or 800 Qpoints to retain their level for 24 months.

Important to understand that these reduced requirements do not apply to level up, but only to renew status.

Double Qpoints until June 31, 2023

While the first promotion is designed for those whose level is expiring soon, this promo is for those who want to gain status or level up.

The rules of this promotion, similar to those also done by other companies in the covid period, are simple. For all tickets bought between now and next March 31, to fly by June 30 will accumulate twice as many Qpoints Than the non-promotion period. The flight must be operated by Qatar and sold by Qatar. This means that any code-share flights or flights operated by Qatar but with tickets issued by other airlines do not fall under this promotion.

Existing tickets issued before the offer booking period will not be eligible for the promotional bonus if reissued during the offer period. This means that the only chance, if you have existing tickets, is to cancel and rebook from scratch if you want to trigger the bonus.

Qpoints are the points that must be accumulated to achieve status; in British Airways' Executive Club program they are called Tier Points, while in Flying Blue they are called XP. Each flight allows you to accumulate, depending on the route and class a fixed number of points. It takes 150 points to climb from basic level to Silver, as many to get to Gold, and twice as many Gold to climb to the top rung, which is Platinum.

One ticket from Milan to Doha will earn, depending on the fare, between 20 and 80 Qpoints. This means that with one round-trip ticket, with this promotion, you will be able to reach the Gold level with just one trip in business class, while with two round-trip flights in basic economy you will reach the Silver level.

Discounted sale of Qpoints

One of the special features of Qatar's loyalty program is that, unlike with other frequent flyers, it is possible to buy Qpoints.

If, for example, you are close to the expiration of your card and you fail to renew your status by a handful of points, you can acquire up to 40 Qpoints. Right now Qatar is discounting the price of these Qpoints from €25 to €15, allowing you to spend €556 to get up to 40 points.
