There are airports by the sea and beyond where problems are caused by seagulls and other birds and others where, in addition to birds, we must also be careful of animals that may encroach on the runway and create problems for planes taking off and landing and for passengers in general. We have told often as the snakes Are a recurring inconvenience at a great many airports. I myself I witnessed the capture of a specimen As I was about to board a plane.

At Bergamo airport, this problem is represented by the hares and for this, a "hare hunt" is organized on a fixed cadence.
In the morning hours of Sunday, January 22, 2023, in the grassy area of the Orio al Serio airport grounds, a hare cull was carried out with the support of personnel from the Ambito Territoriale Caccia (ATC) della Pianura Bergamasca, chaired by Mario Fogazzola, based in Caravaggio, and volunteer hunting guards from the Province of Bergamo. The operation, carried out three years after the previous one, was prepared and participated in by SACBO, with the group managed by operations manager Alberto Cominassi and safety manager Marco Tagliabue, to comply with European EASA regulations concerning the prevention of possible impacts by removing wild animals from areas affected by aircraft movement.
As in previous similar operations aimed at gradually containing the presence of hares on airport grounds, all precautions are taken for the protection and preservation of captured specimens, which were ringed by a veterinary doctor to be released later in the restocking areas of the Bergamo Plain.
At 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning, 52 operators went into action. who proceeded to set up special nets in strategic areas, artfully producing sounds and disturbances for the purpose of pushing hares in the desired direction so that they could then be picked up with proper care and attention. The operation, which ended at 11:00 a.m., resulted in the interception and removal of 23 specimens, a result that contributes to the achievement of the goal of gradually containing the presence of hares on airport grounds. During the hare catching operations, aviation activity was carried out regularly, with no interruptions or traffic restrictions.
