New York Is one of the favorite destinations for Italians And in the Big Apple, we've been there a lot. from December 2021, that is, since the U.S. reopened its borders after the pandemic.
In this article:
There are several hotels in this city that we reviewed and today is added the first of the Motto brand, a young sign from the family Hilton (was invented in 2018). There are very few hotels in the world and only one in Europe and that's why I was curious to try it.
Open in January 2022
The first thing to say is that this is a brand new hotel. It opened last year in Chelsea, a 10-minute walk from Times Square. This brand is designed by Hilton to attract young travelers, offer a facility that can compete with designer hostels. The same thing that for example Marriott does with the Moxy brand..
The hotels of these two signs are also called "micro hotels" Or perhaps it would be better to say hotels with small rooms. Which by New York standards, however, are not small.
Great imagination is put into the common spaces, designed as coworking and social places, and it is here that I am writing this review.
Reservation
As always, I booked through the Hilton app. One of the reasons that made me lean toward this hotel is also the promotion that is active right now for Honors loyalty program members. In addition to double points you receive 1000 bonus points for each stay in a different brand. A way to invite customers to try new facilities.
I could have booked with points as well, but strangely enough. prices in NY are back to acceptable levels and compared to December will be the off-season, so it was not convenient for me.
Location
The 374-room Motto by Hilton New York City Chelsea, located on 24th Street near Madison Square Park, is a 42-story tower that rises as the last skyscraper in Midtown, before the low-rise houses of Chelsea and Greenwich village. If from the room you have a view toward lower Manhattan you will perfectly see everything from Brooklyn to Jersey, and of course all of lower Manhattan.
It is in a perfect location, away from all the chaos, but at the same time close to everything. From Little Italy to Times Square, from China Town to west and east village. We are 3 minutes from the iconic Flat Iron and Bryant Park, a must for anyone coming to NY.
Check In
At the front desk I was warmly greeted by an attendant who even tried to pronounce my last name. The environment is very youthful and I like it very much, as I like the Moxy.
Motto immediately eliminated the free breakfast and alternatively offers a credit to spend in the facility's restaurant and bars. This measure is of the entire brand Rotterdam is also like this in the only European Motto.. As Hilton Honors Diamond I then received a credit of 18$.
These signs do not have suites or superior rooms. The most you can hope for as an upgrade is to be put in a room on higher floors with the best view.
The room
My room was in the 40th and the view was of lower Manhattan. Of course, maybe first-time NYers prefer to see the skyscrapers. I, on the other hand, like this type of view much better. Although 40th is too high to be able to "poke around" in the neighboring buildings.
The room is basic, but it is not small even by the New York City standard, where square footage costs twice as much and is half the size.
Of course, one might be surprised not to have a closet, but only places to hang clothes. Also the fact that the bathroom is "broken down" with the sink in the room might bother some people, but not me.
In NY you don't go to stay hours in the room, you have to have a nice, clean room and a comfortable bed. And this mattress was perfect, including the topper.
What changes everything is the view. The wall of the room is a huge window with an incredible view. If we were in an emblazoned sign this view would be worth an extra charge like "panoramic view" or "River View."
Social, Food & More
At the heart of this hotel, as of the Moxy, are the common spaces.
Here there is a lounge bar on the second floor, overlooking the outside of the hotel. There is a beautiful bar counter, lots of chairs, and a huge table perfect for smartworking.
On the ground floor everything revolves around the elevator shaft.
There is a second bar, with an even larger counter, a dining room that serves breakfast in the morning, and plenty of seating, perfect for socializing, meeting people, and working.
There is also a patio porch, but it was not accessible and the entrance houses a small gazebo. The covid taught Americans to eat outside and the dehors, gazebos have remained even now that everything is back to the way it was.
The restaurant is clearly Italian-inspired since it is called "Cicchetti"
In conclusion
Motto and praise, the recipe is the same as in Moxy here there is less playfulness, although it is clear that the target audience and language are exactly the same.
I do not consider it inferior to many other brands, in fact given the experience of some of the Hiltons here in NY, I definitely prefer it to many "old" hotels in the city.
