I admit it: for years I "snubbed" App in the air. I thought it was not really useful, and I must say I was wrong. Today I regret that I only downloaded it in the past few months. Ever since I installed it, all I can think about is "I had done this before."
In this article:
I travel a lot, but there are definitely people who travel a lot more than I do, and the confirmation comes directly from the app. Because right now as I write this review I am over 1000th among all users, but looking at the glass half full I still fall into the 1% of those who travel the most.
Having an app that keeps track of all flights , miles and destinations is the purpose of this app, which to these useful services also adds a playful part with badges, milestones and challenges with friends to see who flies the most and how much time is spent above the clouds.
Now that I have been using App in the air for a few months, it is time for my review,
App in the Air, the review
This app is a true personal assistant dedicated to travel, with the only difference being that since he is not human he does not go on vacation and is on call h24, even when on a plane and without wi-fi. After completing the setup and eventually configuring the frequent flyer cards, the App will automatically retrieve all flights (past and future) and add them to the history simply by going to retrieve the information from the emails or profiles of the individual loyalty programs.
Once a flight is docked, it will be possible to access all information about the itinerary-from PNR to any restrictions, from weather to airport tips. The app knows everything about everyone.
If you are a member of several airline loyalty programs, App in the Air keeps track of these different airline loyalty programs and records your travel with each airline.
My favorite function, however, is the "my travels" screen, in one touch I access all my reservations. All the flights, the details, the airlines, the stopovers. Of course, I also have everything on my calendar, but here everything is instant.
Notifications at the right time
The other feature that is a lifesaver is notifications, both those before the day of the flight and especially last minute ones. It reminds you when check-in opens, alerts you to the status of your flight and any changes.
It has happened to me, because of the time difference, that I miscalculate the time of a flight or, for example, miscalculate the time of a stopover. Notifications "break" the boxes but in this case they save my wallet and travel plans. I also installed an ad hoc screen on my apple watch so that I can keep track of everything at all times without even having to open my phone.
One of the most convenient notifications is the gate notification: as soon as it is made public, a notification arrives on my phone with information about the gate from which my flight will depart, and the actual time of the scheduled landing.
Flight monitoring with in-flight app
Unfortunately, not all planes have wifi, and the app helps here too, tracking the flight even without a connection. Of course, if there's been a problem and the route has changed you won't know, but in all other cases you can see without having to access the seat screen, where you are and how far to landing. Very convenient.
Gamification
I also really like the playful aspect of this app, which reminds me of the old days of Foursquare, when you had to check in places and became a virtual "mayor" and with my friends we would challenge each other to see who was the mayor of our favorite pub.
If you feel like socializing, the app can tell you who is nearby and flying, with statistics about them, such as hours spent in the air.
If you don't feel like socializing but simply want to compare how much you travel compared to your friends, you can do so by connecting with them, comparing your numbers, routes, cities, time spent in the air, and so on.
In conclusion
If you want to get in touch with me, you can download the APP and add me to your contact list so we might end up meeting in some lounge or somewhere around the world.
