One of the nicest features of the Bonvoy program, the loyalty system of the Marriott hotel chain is, or perhaps it would be better to say was, the "Points Advance" feature.
In this article:
Points Advance allowed users to redeem an award reservation without having all the points in the account. Rather than a loan, this option allowed users to lock in a room and top up the account within 2 months of booking, or 14 before eventual check-in. Unfortunately, however, as of next March 27 this possibility will be removed from the program.
The rules for this feature were already limited in 2021, and now Bonvoy has decided to eliminate this feature altogether. Of course, all reservations made before March 28 will be honored, but it will no longer be possible to make new ones or modify existing ones.
Marriott explained that this feature was little used and that is why it was eliminated, which is not hard to imagine given that with the 2021 changes it had been greatly depowered.
The only other program that now has a similar function is the Hyatt chain's loyalty program, however, the advantage is only for Globalist members who can book as many rooms as they want without points. Always keeping in mind the cancellation policies of each individual hotel and their penalties in case of a no-show.
