It is called Fco Connect and is the service that enables one-stop check-in and baggage delivery for travelers who will use the intermodal service train+plane to and from the airport in Rome Fiumicino.

The latest news from the Roman airport comes directly from the Linkedin page by Rome Airports with a photo depicting the check-in desk named Fco Connect and featuring the logos of Ita Airways and Trenitalia.
AdR's post actually does not reveal many details of the new check in desk; but it is easy to imagine that the service will soon be available to customers Trenitalia and Ita Airways (and Lufthansa if the acquisition of the tricolor carrier goes through) especially following the memorandum of understanding that the three companies (Lufthansa Group, railways and the Italian airline) signed last February.
The announcement of Ita
Within hours of the post, in fact, comes the official statement from Ita Airways christening the initiative. The "train+airplane" product allows passengers to simplify their travel experience by combining the rail and air route with a combined ticket and a check-in already at the station at the dedicated counters in the train station at Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport.
Thanks to the technology Accesrail, it is indeed possible to purchase air and rail routes in a single transaction and connect major Italian cities served by theHigh Speed Frecciarossa with Fiumicino airport by conveniently switching from train to plane and vice versa.
In addition, as of today, thanks to a partnership with Aeroporti di Roma, "there is also a Ita Airways dedicated check-in desk to those who reach the airport by train aboard a Frecciarossa, or with a Leonardo Express in conjunction with a High Speed train to Roma Termini, to continue their journey to an international or intercontinental destination of Ita Airways," the press note recalls, announcing that the partners will officially unveil the product in late April.
Specifically, the February agreement on intermodality provided for Ita and Trenitalia to:
- realize effective multimodal services between air and rail, connecting different modes of transportation;
- Develop a joint offering to the point where air and rail tickets can be purchased in one go;
- definition definition loyalty programs combined.
Here comes the single ticket
At this point it is official, therefore, the launch of the single ticket train+airplane with probably also attached a unique Pnr and the (future?) possibility of accumulating Volare loyalty program points even when traveling on Trenitalia's high-speed trains.
With this new move on Fiumicino, therefore, Ita Airways once again demonstrates its commitment to pursuing a future-oriented To intermodality to ensure connectivity between Italian territories, especially for an airline that operates a hub and spoke model.
"The two MoUs are the prerequisite for realizing. business and operational partnerships intended to develop a multimodal mobility offer that can effectively meet the needs of tourism and business demand and realize an agile and convenient "end-to-end" travel experience, possibly also taking advantage of common digital platforms," Trenitalia's note had also stressed last Feb. 3, the day of the three-way agreement between Lufthansa, Ita and the railway company.
