Bergamo 50 thousand passengers in one day: record thanks to Norwegian and new flight from Bergen
It happened on April 30 on the inaugural flight of the Scandinavian airline
Sunday, April 30, For the first time in its history, Milan Bergamo Airport has surpassed the threshold of 50 thousand passengers transited in one day.
"A new milestone, continuing the trend of air traffic recovery that has been underway for the past year, achieved on a day marked by an equally high index of regularity and punctuality." John Sanga, president of SACBO, comments on the historic day that closed an excellent month of April, the best ever from an operational standpoint.
In this article:
Departures and arrivals added up to a figure of 50,242 passengers, the effect of a significantly increased load factor for the same number of scheduled flights. The month of April ended with a final tally of 1,363,200 passengers (+17.2% compared to April 2019 and over 250 thousand more than twelve months ago) and a daily average of 45,440.
"The ability to handle such an important flow of travelers is to be ascribed to the expansion of infrastructural and operational spaces, according to a program of interventions that SACBO carried out even during the pandemic emergency period, and to the strengthening of airport services in order to ensure a level of assistance adequate to the growth - Giovanni Sanga emphasizes - We have never stopped and followed up punctually on the interventions provided for in the Airport Development Plan, with the aim of making the airport infrastructure as a whole more and more modern and welcoming, thus meeting the needs of passengers. We have approved the allocation of 40 million for the work of further expansion of the east side of the air terminal, for the construction of the new area intended for the check -in area and security checks, with the adoption of advanced generation radiogenic machinery that will make it possible to avoid extracting liquid electronic devices from hand luggage. At the same time, the construction site was opened for the construction of the tunnel connecting the west side of the air terminal with the future terminus station of the rail link, expected in 2026, the year of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics."
Sealing the milestone of 50,000 daily passengers was the arrival on Sunday evening, April 30, of the Inaugural flight from Bergen by Norwegian Airlines, which launched its operations at Milan Bergamo Airport.
The Scandinavian carrier's 737-800, which landed at 8:25 p.m., was greeted by the traditional water arch of the fire department Of the Orio al Serio Detachment.
An auspicious welcome for Norwegian Airlines, which becomes the 21st airline in the Milan Bergamo network (recently brought forward by Flydubai).
