Incredible, but until the past few weeks the world's second-largest hotel chain was completely absent from one of the world's best-known locations, the French Riviera. Hilton opened its first hotel in the south of France, one of the world's best-known destinations and home to Nice Airport the second busiest in France.

The other chains are present, of course the big voice is Accor, which plays at home, but Radisson, Hyatt and Marriott also have several facilities scattered among Monte Carlo, Nice, Antibes, Cannes and St. Tropez. Hilton has planned a series of new openings also aimed at bridging the gap with concorrenz, thus increasing the chances for travelers to take advantage of points in one of Europe's most historically expensive locations.
The new Canopy Cannes
In the city famous for its "croisette" and the film festival that brings Hollywood to the Riviera in May, Hilton has chosen to open a hotel under the lifestyle banner, namely the Canopy.
With panoramic views of the Mediterranean from one of the city's best terraces, interiors designed by acclaimed designer Ramy Fischer, and a relaxing pool flowing from inside to outside, the hotel is destined to become a "hot" address in Cannes. With an unbeatable address, within walking distance of the harbor, Canopy by Hilton Cannes exemplifies the relaxed elegance of the city in its design. The hotel has 129 rooms and suites, as well as 12 other apartments, most of which offer spectacular views of the old port, the Croisette and the islands of Lérins. In collaboration with a prestigious jury of art experts and private collectors from around the world, the hotel invited twelve talented young artists to create unique artwork for each room.
The contemporary artwork is complemented by the sophisticated comfort of Canopy by Hilton, including the brand's signature four-poster bed frame, exclusive bedding created especially for Canopy by Hilton, and thoughtful amenities such as Canopy socks and Nespresso machines.
Simon Vincent, executive vice president and president EMEA of Hilton, said, "We are thrilled to partner with Nouvelle Vague Hospitality to bring the elevated boutique hotel experience of Canopy by Hilton to Cannes' most desirable neighborhood. Nestled in the heart of the iconic French Riviera, Cannes attracts millions of visitors each year with its timeless charm, captivating location, annual calendar of high-profile international events, and, of course, its world-renowned film festival. The city is a treasure trove of upscale shopping destinations, renowned dining options, and some of the best beach clubs in the country. It's great to see Hilton in such a wonderful city, and this spectacular hotel is another fantastic addition to our growing portfolio of hotels and brands in the south of France."
With an identity inspired by the tranquil beauty of the islands of Lérins, the soul of old Cannes and the "Grande Bleue" Mediterranean Sea, Marea's breathtaking 360-degree panorama is located on the top floor. From 6 p.m. until midnight, seven days a week, guests are invited to share a selection of small plates, meticulously sourced from local suppliers. The brainchild of Alexander Douglas Burger, a California native and traveler at heart, the head chef at Canopy by Hilton Cannes has devised a menu full of surprises, detours, and adventurous culinary delights.
Offering a multitude of public spaces, Canopy Central, the centerpiece of the hotel, brings people together in comfort and warm natural light. A space for relaxing, working or simply enjoying a few moments of contemplation, Canopy Central is a unique space that adapts to guests' needs while feeling like an extension of the neighborhood.
Jean-François Chapel, general manager of Canopy by Hilton Cannes, said, "We are delighted to open one of the first lifestyle hotels in Cannes, with breathtaking views from the terrace over the French Riviera, authentic food and beverage offerings, and a local offering-an inspired experience that will help guests connect with the neighborhood. Canopy by Hilton Cannes is a tribute to the incredible year-round charm of the French Riviera, and I am proud to bring the Canopy by Hilton brand to this destination."
How much does this new facility cost
The French Riviera is not a cheap destination, and this hotel confirms it. The price for the first Saturday in September is 355 if you are enrolled in the Hilton Honors program, otherwise it goes up to 370€. Also very expensive is the price in points since 80k HH points are required for the same room. In low season, the price also drops to 130€ and consequently the price in points also goes down, but still 34k HH is still too much when compared to the cash asking price.
