The risk when booking a Error Do Is for the company not to honor the ticket and cancel reservations, unfortunately it is one of the rules of the game and the reason why when booking certain rates you have to:
- book to fly the next day
- Do not book anything until you are reasonably certain that the ticket will be honored
In this article:
In the first case, if you can book these fares to fly at a very tight schedule, you have a reasonable assurance that you will leave since the companies' reaction times take at the very least a few days or weeks to make a decision on what to do. Conversely if scheduled to depart weeks, or months later, better to wait to make plans and see how the situation evolves.
I have often talked about how I have exploited some error do, the most famous one that with one euro + taxes, flew me in business with Finnair to Asia, a note that has had more twists and turns than Penelope's web. Or how ANA has erased the recent currency conversion error. that had led tens of thousands of travelers to book tickets at absurd prices.
Oman will not honor tickets sold
The Muscat-based company has just started sending an email to travelers who have booked the business class ticket from Milan to Bangkok for less than €1,000.
We regret to inform you that an unfortunate error occurred during the rate filing process, resulting in the wrong rate being entered for your reservation. Since this was an error, please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused.
With this email, the company offers three options:
- Full repayment
- Transformation of ticket from business to economy
- Supplement of additional 1000€ to have the confirmation of a/r business class ticket
Obviously of the three proposals I would go for option 1, unless you were able to get the original ticket under €900, then at €1900 it would still be a excellent amount of money to fly on one of the best business class cabins on the market.
In conclusion
Sorry to see Oman Air cancel these tickets, it could have been an important marketing move on the eve of joining oneWorld and a way to get exposure to a large audience, excellent strategy though to offer different options to users and not just a refund of the ticket paid.
