No matter where you go or what kind of traveler you are, the Moxy never disappoints: not even in Tokyo

If you don't know what the features of Moxy hotels are. means that you are not a careful reader of TFC, since I discovered this Marriott group sign have become a lifeline in my wanderings around the world. And the one in Tokyo only confirmed my conviction. Moxy's are perfect, and when they are downtown and not out of the way, they are even better.

I don't remember when I booked this hotel, but I think long before my visit. Prices in post-pandemic Japan have been on a roller coaster ride. Last summer at the first hints of the reopening of the borders they had sprung up, then abetted by low demand had returned to low levels, in fact I had also managed to book for a handful of yen the Hilton Shinjuku notoriously expensive. Prices that with spring, the first with the borders reopened, started to rise again and are now at record levels.
To me a night in this hotel is cost about 150 euros, not bad for a Moxy, but this is Tokyo and everything is expensive here. As always, I booked through the Marriott app and took advantage of the status-related benefits, status that I have always had for free thanks to my Amex Platinum. On the contrary, I did not think of using points because it was not convenient at all.
Location
Did you get your flight cancelled, miss your connection, land late?
You could get up to 600€ compensation per person
When I come to Tokyo, sd when they reopened the borders this is the third time, I always try to end up in a different neighborhood. My trips are often short, a couple of days at most, so I always choose different areas so that you can explore the neighborhoods of this immense megalopolis without having to spend hours on the subway.
This hotel is located in the district of the same name, a 5-minute walk from the Kinshicho JR station. The area is very lively, there are a couple of large shopping malls, but most of all wandering around the narrow streets there are lots of all kinds of little places, and anyone who has been to Tokyo at least once understands what I mean.
Check-in and room
Through the hatchway, I arrived at the bar counter.
In all Moxy the reception desk is incorporated into the bar, and the ground floor is in 99% of cases, the reason why people choose to stay in a hotel of this sign.
Not too fast procedures, but in a good way. Because the attendant spent more time explaining to me the things to do and the benefits rather than registering my presence at the hotel.
Taking the card, I headed for the room. Upgrade to the top floor, but in the Moxy's one should not expect anything different between rooms if not the floor and a few extra square inches of space based on the layout of the building and the location of the room.
The room is the Japanese declination of the Moxy Style. No frills and little design. Queen bed, I have never found a King in these facilities, and mega screen TV. I have to say that my Level8 aluminum matches in any decor And I remember that using TFC10 you can buy it with 10% discount.
To optimize the space in the room, all of the furniture is hung on the wall, and if necessary the guest can make use of the small table, chair and suitcase rack by assembling them themselves.
Bed aside the only other piece of furniture was a small armchair, where I laid my backpack and nightstand. With the vintage faux phone found in (almost) every Moxy.
Bathroom in the norm, with large shower and full of options starting with the toilet seat with built-in Japanese bidet.
This is the first time in my life that I have found the mini-bar on the bathroom sink, too bad I was without a suitcase to board, I would have gladly taken it to the office.
Common spaces
As mentioned, I am the heart of the Moxy, and even in Tokyo it is like that. I really enjoy getting to work on my PC at one of the small tables scattered around the lobby or nearby areas. I can work in peace and in the meantime observe people from all over the world doing things in a young, relaxed environment with few filters.
Here there is a 24-hour bar, a small game room, and lots of desks, armchair tables where you can wait for a friend, have a beer, or just relax after a long day out and about in this endless city.
On the -1 floor is a small gymnasium (made by Technogym) and the coin-operated laundry, useful for refreshing clothes.
Benefits
For those with status in the Bonvoy loyalty program there are different benefits based on level, even things more than what would be logical to expect.
In addition, all guests are offered a welcome drink, a courtesy that for those with status is extended to the entire stay with the possibility of having soft drinks and other beverages always free
In conclusion
As mentioned, the Moxy never disappoints. In Tokyo you are spoiled for choice in terms of hotels and accommodations, sleeping in capsules has never interested me, I prefer real bedrooms and in facilities like the Moxy or the Aloft in Ginza you can stay well and spend less than you think.
