We are not talking about traveling without a suitcase and Renting clothes as is the case in Japan, but of the new service offered to Air France passengers departing or arriving from/to Paris.
The new service
In this article:
There are already similar services in the world, for example in Dubai Emirates goes to the passenger's home complete with a printer and takes charge of passengers' luggage the day before departure. The French flag carrier chose to outsource the service to the innovative start-up specializing in travel and mobility: Alltheway.
Air France now offers its customers the option of depositing and checking luggage in Paris and the Paris region, prior to arrival at the airport. This service allows passengers to travel light and with greater peace of mind, without having to worry about their luggage, which will be picked up once they arrive at their destination.
How it works
It is available in eight partner locations. Five ACCOR hotels located in the city center offer this service: Novotel Tour Eiffel, Mercure Tour Eiffel, Novotel Les Halles, Mercure Montparnasse and Pullman Bercy. Iluggage storage is also available at major exhibition sites of major trade shows such as Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the Villepinte exhibition center, and the Palais des Congrès convention center. More luggage storage points will soon be available in Paris.
It is available on all Air France-operated flights departing from Paris-Charles de Gaulle, except for flights to Tel Aviv.
Alltheway takes charge of customers' luggage at easily accessible drop-off points and delivers them directly to the airline's check-in counter at the airport. The luggage undergoes rigorous security checks at every step of the process before being loaded onto the customer's flight. From their personal Alltheway account, customers can follow their luggage to the airport and then to their destination using the "follow my luggage" tool in the Air France app.
How much does it cost
This service is available from 30 hours up to 4 hours before departure of the flight, depending on the baggage storage location, and costs 25 euros for one baggage, then 10 euros per additional baggage.
Air France is also working on baggage check-in from home and the possibility of baggage pickup and delivery to an address in Paris and the Paris region, so it will be possible to check in your suitcase at Fiumicino and find it directly at your hotel in Paris without having to carry it in person on the way from the airport to your final destination.
